Been trying to convince the wife to allocate some room for a reloading station. I would be completely green in this aspect. Have always used factory ammo.

I’m talking 9mm.....and perhaps .45 in the near future.

I just Need the the bare min of required space To get a decent set up going.

I would like a progressive press.

If space is the issue then the lee loader classic all fits inside an ammo crate. Its also portable if you are into that sort of thing.

A simple press stand can fit in a small closet or corner, but it all depends on how deep you want to dive into the hobby. Here is what a lee press with stand looks like:

Alright,

Looks as if it would take up very little room. I’m eyeing a nice corner of my bedroom where a large dog crate is at present. Our golden has not used it in sometime now and I’d like to procure that space.

If you are right handed and plan to use a lever operated press, probably plan to install the press near the right side of your work surface - chances are good you will use your right hand to operate the lever and the left hand to feed components to and from the press. If you are going to use a balance beam scale, try to figure a place for it about eye level, when seated - becomes a real pain to trickle up loads when have to get face down to desk top level to see the balance beam marker line up. I do my case prep and priming on the space in front of the chair - to the left of the press. I prefer to use an RCBS Bench mounted primer, so I do mount and unmount it whenever I want use it - four screws.

I do not use a progressive press - I use a single stage and have never loaded for handguns. So, might be all different? But, if you plan to turn out 200 rounds in a session, need space to lay out the 200 components to feed the press - and a place for the 200 x finished product to go.

I think over time you will find your loading tools, loading supplies (bullets, powder, primers and brass), etc. will over take the actual space needed for re-loading operation. A bit extreme, probably, but 19 different die sets, 20 odd containers of powder, associated brass and a couple thousand bullets and primers start to take room to store in a way that you can get at them. Reloading for shotgun is way more bulkier supplies (wads and hulls, mostly), and if you get into bullet casting, another tote or two of "things", beside lead ingots, etc.

I hope you win your battle with the dog.

I'm fine with a 2 door lower kitchen cabinet

Yup I remember having to the dishes before I could reload in our old trailer. Pull out the built in cutting board, slip in a peace of plywood to mount the press on.

Always seemed to be more dishes that day...

If you're like most of us though... the small space you carve out will be too small in short order.

There's always something new to buy, whether it be equipment or components.

I'd ask for more than you think you'll need... way more lol.

Absolutely. My plan is to just get it all set up.....once I’ve invested considerable money into this project, there will be no going back and I’ll be able to basically assimilate more and more space in the house as the level of component expansion requires.

I used to have a Lee and a RCBS press, mounteded to the dining room table. When/if company arrived, I put a pillow case over them.

Then I got married...

While shopping for presses, don’t overlook the lee turret press. The auto indexing dies give it pretty similar efficiency to a progressive.

Or you can pull the indexer out (2 seconds) and use it like a single stage.

I started in a closet under the staircase, about 36" wide, maybe 6' deep. I had two presses in there, a single stage and a progressive. I have a bigger room now, but I'm thinking of moving my reloading setup back to a closet under the stairs and use the larger room for something else.

*The progressive press was located where I'm standing to the take the photo, wall mounted.

I've allocated a corner in the living room of my condo.
I load both rifle and pistol, as others noted this requires room for all the components different powders etc.
