VIHTAVUORI small pistil primers??

HI; I have acquired a small number of VIHTAVUORI small pistol primers made in Finland. Stainless-non-corrosive.
Have you used these? how do they compare to say federal 100 SP?
Will be loading 38 spl or 357 mag light practice rounds.

Primer choice is basically irrelevant as long as it’s the right size. Start low and work your way up, as always.

These are the hottest, by far, primers I ever tested.

Perfect for a light plinker round.

For near max it would need a careful work up.

They added about 100fps to my pistol loads.

To-day thursday plinked off a few rounds. All went bang well enough. Next week should be a chorney session.
Primers are from auction lot.

My yellow box Viht primers are ones I bought from AmmoMart in the 80's.

PRIMER-VIHTAVUORI- 844 FPS, high-low 18 FPS
PRIMER-FED 100 small pistol-847 FPS, high-low 17 FPS
All rounds loaded at the same time, taper crimp separate RCBS die. Tested together at the same time.
Average deviation from average velocity less the 9 FPS with both primers.
What I see is a very consistent load, regardless of primer and no real world difference in results. The brass was clean on the outside of both and inside of both loads.

Are they harder or softer than Winchester primers ? I have one old handgun that soft strikes on CCI primers fairly often but is reliable with Winchesters.

I believe the primers (VIH---) may be softer then the federals.

You could pop the anvil out of a fired one, hammer the dimple flat and try to measure the cup thickness... Might be easy to email the manufacturer and see if they will spill the beans.

As I said, these primers are excellent for a light plinker load. Although Titegroup is not the best powder for power, it will launch a 158 at 1100 fps in a 357Mag.

I would be curious to see how they do with identical (full power) loads.

My 9mm results were with a powder around Unique speed and at near full power.

My log book shows the results, but the notes are sketchy. "Hot!. Not for full power. VHT - 1203 fps Fed 1051fps"

The VHT primers were in a yellow sleeve. I don't know if Vht colour coded their primers or not. Looking back, I can't be sure if I was using small pistol or small rifle.
