Finalizing the build on a glock 17 gen 3 open gun in 9mm major.

The last piece of this build To source is the barrel and a comp.

Can anyone recommend a barrel and comp for this application from first hand use?

As this is a budget build I am hoping to stay under $600 with a max of $700. Not looking for anything flashy (tin coated etc).

Thanks in advance.

I was doing and competed in open for a year with my Glock you won’t run major reliably, stick to getting a comp or ported barrel and shoot open minor, you will actually shoot faster this way as way less recoil and you skip all the $$ in Ammo to try and get major and not to mention the problems.

What about shooting .40 (major) in open division?

Is that a viable option with a Glock? Or is 9mm the only way to go?

Mark, I'm sorry, but the term "budget build" and "IPSC Open" are mutually exclusive.
It's kinda like saying "I'm only going to spend a little on my racecar."
Open is great fun, but without a doubt; the most financially draining option for IPSC.

The recipe for making compensators work is slow burning powders with light bullets.
While a 40 will work, it's never going to make the confined volume of gases that 9mm major or 38 super do to make comps work.
The absolute extreme solution was the now defunct 9x25 Dillon, a necked-down 10mm shooting a 90 grain 9mm bullet.
They'd load H110 as a powder and the powder would still be burning in the comp.
It actually made the barrel go down, rather than rise but it was brutal on parts and steel targets.
It also had a capacity limitation if you shot outside of Canada.

Agreed. Perhaps I should have phrased it differently. Can’t justify the cost of a ready built STI open gun as I have mobility issues and won’t be Uber competitive due to knee replacements and an ankle replacement.

I already had the Glock, RMR cut slide, decent trigger, Holosun 507, extended mag release and a tungsten guide rod and several different weight springs on hand, as well as mag well etc....

Just looking for recommendations for a barrel and comp to work with 9 major. Looking for a barrel with more case support and was hoping someone could recommend a barrel and comp they had used with success for this caliber.

I have everything for loading including about 20k brass and reloading components and powder.

My go-to is Black Box Customs for the fancy Glock stuff. Have you contacted them?
