Hello;
Request for CGN community help with valuation
I am in possession of some firearms that used to belong to a friend, who unfortunately passed away recently. I am trying to establish a fair price for the firearms. I will eventually be selling them and passing on 100% of the money raised to my friends’ wife and teenage son.

Please do not contact me trying to buy these firearms. They are not for sale unless/until they are listed in the Equipment Exchange (some will be sold locally, some may stay in the family).

O.F. Mossberg & Sons Inc, Model 185D-B, 20 ga 2 3/4", bolt action shotgun. This shotgun is complete but appears to have a functional issue. The trigger and safety appear to be loose within the action and the bolt tends to come out of the action when pulled to the rear unless you are very gentle. I expect there is a broken or missing spring in the trigger group or similar. Is this a known problem with this make and Model? Given the fairly low value of this shotgun, is it worth spending money at a gunsmith to fix, or should I just sell it as a project/parts gun? Value???

Thank you in advance for your advice.

If it was mine, I would be happy to sell it for $75 as is... let someone else have the head ache... it could easily cost $75 to fix it...

One screw to remove the barreled action from the stock. Look at the trigger group. Might be a really obvious, simple fix.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to find a parts diagram on-line and it appears that I am missing several parts:

R406, safety screw
R150, trigger spring plunger
R563, trigger spring

Rather minor parts needed, nothing special.
I remember a friend having one of those when I was in high school. Used it a bit for rabbit hunting. Not a bad little gun.

Looking at the photo, there certainly appears to be a magazine in place. A missing magazine is a lot more serious than the three missing parts.
Magazines for Mossberg and other bolt action shotguns can require a bit of searching, and they don't tend to be cheap.
