I picked up a 17 . When I tried to run a patch through ( tipton ultra jag ) the jag just punched a hole through the patch . I had just cut down what I had to 3/4 inch square . It looks like I will have to order some patches. Any experience on jag/patch combos that work. I could get Tipton patches but would like some info first as I am a little cynical.
Normally I wrap my patches around a bore brush and do not use jags but I doubt this will work here.

Thanks

I use a worn out 17cal brush and wrap a single layer patch on it. You’ll have to be a bit creative with your scissors but you’ll figure out what works and what doesn’t. Just be sure not to force anything or you’ll damage the rifling lands and then it’ll be a costly trip to the gunsmith.

For my 17HH, I use .22 cal patches and trim about 1/8" off two sides with scissors. I believe the .22 patches (I use), are made of thinner fabric which also helps.

I have had a few 17s. For my Left Hand Rem 700 SPS Varmint in .17 fireball and my Left Hand CZ 452 American in .17 hmr, I found I needed to buy a proper .17 cal rod and jag and then buy specifically .17 cal patches. Any patches marked ".17-.22 cal" or anything of those sorts, I found that they really don't fit or work. Last batch of patches I want to say I got locally from Prairie Gun Traders in Avonlea, SK.
