Just because said slug has done one hell of a lot of damage going through, does not mean it acted anything like an explosive vermen pellets at ultra high velocity, and therefore lacks penetration. Without expanding one iota a one oz. slug will displace a lot of flesh and bone! It's like comparing a smart car to a freight train! Freight train might be going slower, but sure is tough to stop.

I was always under the impression that foster type slugs flattened out like a toonie when they hit flesh, being as their so soft and all, thus giving you poor penetration.
 
Just doing some reading on the Remington Buckhammers. Are they meant for rifled barrels only, or will a rifled tube work? They seem to have pretty impressive ballistics, althought that was from Remingtons site, which may be biased.

Out here in BC, black bears and deer are legal to take with shotgun slugs but a moose is not. Check your reg's before going afield.....

Remington claims they're good for both. I tried the 3' BH's outta my Win. 120 with deer bbl & Carlsons RCT with decent accuracy out to 50yd(2 3/4" group) and just under 5'' at 100, but they sure have a recoil. I'm sure they'd group better with a FRB(fully rifled barrel).
