I see you're from Quebec, here is the French version. ;)

ENTREPOSAGE DES ARMES À FEU À AUTORISATION RESTREINTE

6. Le particulier ne peut entreposer une arme à feu à autorisation restreinte que si les conditions suivantes sont respectées :

a) elle est non chargée;

(ii) entreposée dans une chambre forte, un coffre-fort ou une pièce qui ont été construits ou modifiés expressément pour l'entreposage sécuritaire des armes à feu à autorisation restreinte et qui sont gardés bien verrouillés;

one ammunition question as I find the wording above a little ambiguous. If you have a safe with your restricted in there, can you also store your ammo in there as well or do you have to have a seperate lock box inside your safe to have both in there. If that is the case i guess you could store your ammo lock box outside the safe as well. Wouldn't it be better to just have both locked up in one place...inside the safe. The whole safe within a safe seems odd to me but maybe I'm misreading the wording above. Thanks for any info,
Cheers.

"...Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearm. ..."

Most home gun safes can be cracked open in a matter of 5 minutes. I always trigger lock my guns and lock my ammo separately. That way you reduce the chance of somebody greeting you at your front door with your own loaded handgun when you return home from shopping.

It is good practice to store them separate but it's not required by the law. I think he asked about the legal requirements.

it also makes it difficult for you to greet them when they're trying to shop at your house late at night.

if they've managed to crack your safe, your triggerlocks will do little.

We always need to do somrthing for our own good! I use trigger lock for all my gun in the safe and of course the ammo is store somewhere far away from the guns.

They have safes now that read finger prints (one can enter in a few ppl) thus making it faster for you to open, no need to look for the key. They still come with 'override' key too.

I can pop off a trigger lock in 10 seconds. Many times someone forget the key at home and comes to the range... Tiny flat blade screwdriver and the lock is open!

If you spend the money and buy good quality combination trigger locks they will not come off easily without breaking the trigger guard. If need be then i can get them off my gun in about 5 seconds with my combination with no need to search for keys.

It would be nice to buy two safe's but I can't afford to. I'll store it all in one if legal.

You can buy a small pistol safe/lock box for about $60 at LeBaron, If you can't afford that you probably can't even afford ammo.
I like to keep a loaded magazine hidden in the same LOCKED room as my gunsafe in case I need it quickly,but the bulk of my ammo is stored in a separate safe in the other end of my house. I realize tht i don't LEGALLY have to go this extra step but to me it's worth it and gives me extra piece of mind.

that's my whole point...wouldn't this be considered illegal? you still have easy access to your ammo near your restricted. I guess the definition of "accessible" is up to interpretation...hmmmm....and I meant I didn't want to buy two fire proof safes at two hundred each...i don't like to buy cheap crap, but in this case I guess i'll buy one good big one and a cheesy cheap one to store my ammo within it.

The legal way to store restricted is posted. Anything you do above and beyond is up to you. You want to store a loaded mag or two with the gun, do it. You all freaky about it, then hide it under your pillow or in a drawer under your panties. There are the legal requirements, there are the common sense type issues and then there are practical issues. You have a bunch of home robberies in your neighborhood, pretty sure if you kept your pistol on your bedside table with a mag beside it or in it, you can likely cover your ass if you need to. Let's not beat this topic to death once more....

Ahem....

Most trigger locks can be picked in under 30 seconds just FYI. Picked my own locks in 10 seconds for one, 26 seconds on the other first time around. Paperclips and a tension wrench i.e. even a popcan lid folded correctly work miracles.:jerkit:

Buy a HIGHLY SECURE safe instead of some cheap Wallmart one. That's all you need.
