I have a shadow 1
I have a vortex venom 3moa on my Ruger Mk IV and I like it

I would like to put it on the Shadow

Is this wishful thinking?

Or is it not practical and I need to get a OR version or stick with iron sight?

I had my slide milled on my Shadow. A dovetail mount can work though. The optic will sit a bit high, which may not matter at all to you. I’m using a 6 moa Venom, and am getting crazy accuracy now. This is 10 rounds from 10 yards.

Well , hell, you missed one, LOL, That is great shooting, I have done that , every couple of months, maybe.
would love to see a picture, sight right in the cut , or with a plate? Loose the back sight?
I had a Canik with a Vortex on it , quite liked it, but their plated are to damn thick, a dove tail mount would be about the same.

Thanks. I seem to always throw 1 or 2 out. Lol! Did it again last night, in front of my CGN friend, Still alive. I was shooting a bit closer and faster, and tossed 3 out of 20. I’d be a horrible bullseye shooter. No patience. Lol!

The cut is deep, with a custom Shadow 2 style mounting plate. Optic sits low. Rear sight gone forever, unless I get a new plate made with a factory dovetail cut.

Overall, this combo, with the Venom, is literally 2 grams heavier than a stock slide with a Shadow 2 style adjustable rear sight.

I got a few PMs, so here are some pics of the overhang I mentioned. I think the thin slide is why some firms are reluctant to do the cut, because if aesthetics are crucial to you, then you won’t like it. This issue will also apply to cutting a Shadow 2, because of the narrow slide. Compare the regular S2 with the OR version, and you’ll see the slide width change where the OR plate lives.

Even if my custom plate were made to exactly match the width of the optic, the optic is still wider than the slide, and will simply overhang less. Personally, I just don’t care. The results a couple posts up are what matters to me.

...and a pic showing where the dot is compared to the FSP. I have a 7mm FSP to match my old adjustable RSP, and I can use the rear of the optic and just see the top of the FSP, and the optic is low enough to live on top of the FSP. So I can do that if the optic failed at a match. It would be slow, but it will work.

Looks O.K. You could stick a bit of cold blue on . I may be tempted to thin it out a bit and maybe slope the lower edge a bit to the slide,
But as you say will not change the score and that is what counts , I have a viper and venom ,The hole spacing could be too wide to mount direct to slide, never check itDSC01884.jpg

The underside taper is a nice touch. Thanks for the pics. My plate is loctited in place and it has an access hole to pop out the extractor pin, so the only time I’d bother to remove it is if I change optic brands. So no metalwork for me. Lol!
