Looking at several 12 gauge shotguns and weighing the pros and cons of each for general waterfowl and upland hunting. I already have a couple of beauty doubles for uplands so this will be primarily a waterfowl gun. Let's hear what others have to say. I tried searching other threads but did not find anything, so apologies for the uber-anal that may become a Karen if this thread already exists.

My list has narrowed to the following four:
- Benelli Super Vinci
- Benelli Super Black Eagle 2
- Benelli M2 Field
- Beretta A400

Of these four, I am leaning towards the SBE2 and the M2.

Which gun would you choose?

I left the Benelli Super Sport and the SBE3 off of my list. The Super Sport as it is just too shiny. I excluded the SBE3 after reading several US based articles about difficulties with patterns being way off the point of aim. Maybe someone can chime in on the SBE3 and if it outclasses my shortlist.

Many Beretta fans prefer the older 390/391 series, claiming the 400 series was an effort to cheapen production cost. If you are into used, you can pick up one of the older Berettas for half cost of a new offering.... Hope I'm not de-railing your thread.

One of the things about the Benelli SBEII is that they suggest 3 dr loads in order to function properly. Not sure about the A400 with a 3 1/2" chamber. I have a Beretta A400 Xplor with a 3 inch chamber that will cycle everything from 3/4 oz reloads on up to the heaviest 3 inch loads.

M2 Field, simple, slender, nice balance, smooth shooting and reliable. Look no further but, if you do at gas guns, Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus isn't bad at all.

A400 xtreme plus. Mine cycles 7/8oz dove loads all the way up to 3 1/2" goose smackers. By far the softest shooting as well. I had the original a400 xtreme as well, functioned just as reliably. And the safety is in front where it's supposed to be (personal preference lol).

The A 400 is far superior to the 390/391 not sure how the Beretta fans came up with that evaluation

I own a couple of 391s and have shot various A400s and don't agree it is "far superior." It's better in some respects but not in others and the advantages are not enough to convince me to buy one.

An A400 with a 3" chamber would be the gun I'd recommend first to the OP first followed by the M2.
