Since the Henry X model is impossible to get in Canada, I've been thinking about a Ruger 77/357.

Does anyone here have one, and if so, what it your thoughts on it?

It is fine for plinking, for hunting I would go with the 77/44. They are light and handy little rifles and they can shoot too.

I have one, it's a pretty sweet shooting and handy little rifle. I have it in the truck quite often and take it on the odd hunt for whitetail in the thick. There really is no other calibre that is as light in recoil and blast, yet still being acceptable (barely) for short range deer hunting. Still, this rifle is somewhat of a novelty IMO.

I’ve had a few of them, I like them.

They have all been excellent in accuracy with 140-158gr loads. 180grs are hit and miss (factory ammo)
It’s a durable, lightweight, compact and weatherproof rifle with enough jam, but still fun to plink with. The sights are great and ammo is affordable.

It’s been effective for me on 2 deer so far.

That's impressive hoyt, I had a 77/44 and was lucky to hit a barn door at 50 yards. It would not group with any reload I tried and factory ammo was no better.

That's really strange and you should send it to Ruger so that they can fix it!
Any modern, non-defective bolt-action rifle with less than 3 MAO accuracy should be considered faulty.

I’ve tried 2 of the 77/44’s and neither was better than 3-4” @ 100y (Factory ammo). It’s a pistol cal so I’m not expecting precision, but the 77/357’s have been significantly better in my experience.

I picked up a 94-44mag and as I like levers better I moved the 77/44 along. Liked the 94 much better but then got tired of it and it went to a a great home as well. Seems I was looking for a light carrying rifle and I had it all along in a 30-30 until I found a Ruger American compact in 243 and have been using it for 5 years now.

I have had several of the 77/357's & 77/44's, never had much difficulty getting any of them to shoot well.

Back in 2016 these rifles were selling for $800, I think the price on these rifles have increased faster then any other plain bolt rifle on the market.

My 77/44 was a beautiful rifle to shoot and handle! But the groupings on both factory and every imaginable reloaded combo were around 3.5 MOA at 100.

My rifle would not shoot 240’s under 5” at100! 200 & 210’s shot half that usually.

If a 44mag doesnt shoot the 240 well, what is the point of it?

I sold it long ago. If it grouped better I would still have it.

My 77/44 is terrific to 75m and acceptable to about 125. Beyond that the groups are just too big

I only use it where I know the shots are within 100m.

The rifle is light and handy and a joy to carry. I expect the 357 is the same. On mine you must work the action with authority or it will not feed properly. The nose of the bullet gets hung up on the edge of chamber elsewise.
