Looking for an inexpensive 22 for target shooting

I have an older Ruger 10/22 and it is really well made. Never had an issue with it.

I've had two Remington 597s and they both needed a bit of tinkering (new extractors, polishing the inside of the receiver, the guide rods and adjusting the tension of the guide rods) to be reliable. The fit and finish was not as good as the 10/22 either.

I've read that in general, 10/22s are pricier because of their popularity
 
Well I’ll get flames for this but don’t get a 10/22. They aren’t accurate enough for target shooting. You’d be better off practicing dice rolling.

If its on a budget I’d look for a good bolt gun. Probably something used as mentioned above.
 
CHEAP . . . ACCURATE . . . TARGET SHOOTING.

Pick one . . . Okay

Pick two . . . Maybe

Pick all three . . . never unless you definition of accurate and target shooting are pop cans and the range is within 25 yards.

Define all three in your mind would be a huge help to this guessing game.

Agreed in principle. When I had a stock 10/22 carbine, I shot it out to around 25yds and found it accurate to about 0.5" with bulk ammo. Going out any further and things opened up. That said, if you've enough money, a 10/22 (or variant) can be as accurate as a good bolt gun.

The challenge is defining requirements for cost, accuracy at a known distance. With that information, it becomes easier to recommend the tool for the job.

Yes those little Mk2 are definitly worth their prices. I was able to produce toonie sized grouping at 100m with CCI Greentag. Whenever I go shooting, it always comes with me.
