Hunting with an unsafe firearm

My brother and I were shooting clays with a hand thrower and my brother was using my Fathers Charles Daly double.
Luckily he was pointing in a safe direction but it was pointing down and when he closed it the shotgun went of and blew mud at us. Loaded it again and this time had better control and blam went off again.
My Father brought it to a gunsmith and cleaned all the years of buildup out of it and works good now, but really makes you realize just how important muzzle control is.

The guy was a brand new hunter. He couldn't see the guy standing in the trees wearing camo. Nobody is perfect. #### happens. Nobody got hurt, thats the important part.

It was at best a few pellets that hit him, and they had already ricochet'd off the water. Stupid move? For sure. Anywhere near as dangerous as the other people in this thread who damn near got shot in the back with a rifle? I'd say no.

Guys like you are the reason I feel unsafe around the majority of hunters. Recounting this story as no big deal on a public forum is a disservice to anyone reading it who does not have any experience, but that's pretty much par for the course for your posts.

Again, the one guy didn't see the other guy. He didn't realize he was in the line of fire.

It was across a pond. Even a direct shot wouldn't have been life threatening. Dont get me wrong, I'm not volunteering to get shot at any distance but you are acting like a slight change in circumstances could have led to a deadly scenario which simply isn't the case. Shooting your buddy in the ass with a Red Ryder BB gun would be about as dangerous a scenario as this was - if your buddy is wearing 4 layers of clothing at the time.

You're not wrong. It was a shot that shouldn't have been taken. It absolutely was negligent. But we're only human, and people make mistakes.

Regardless, this thread is about hunting with unsafe firearms not unsafe idiots so maybe your story belongs in another thread.

Always wear my revision glasses since I was first issued them. Worth the investment even 8f you just use the clear lenses.

I wear ballistic lenses any time shooting and often fishing. Also when pushing bush hunting. I have seen a metal jacket embed in another shooters glasses on a range. He was happy he was wearing eye pro.
