can ya give me more info on the 7mm stw. Why would I choose that over 7mm-08?

Edit: after a google.. it seems the 7mm STW may be too much cartridge for me. Its up there with the 7mm RUM.. I dont have a need for that.

There is a milder verson; the 7MM STE or Shooting Times Eastener.

I have a 7MMRM, recoil is not bad at all and closely compare to a 30-06, but for your use, I would choose the 7MM-08, actually, this might well be my next purchase for my girls as they love fishing/hunting and they want to start shooting, my 10y old wants to come with me deer hunting this year (as a spectator) . I tried 140gr ballTip on deer with my 7MM and would expect a similar result with the 08, and it would do the job well on moose with a 160gr bullet.

You can't go wrong wityha 7-08.

You might also consider the 6.5-08 (known as the 260 rem)

I have both and am hard pressed to say one is better than the other.

7-08 hands down.Decent range of factory ammo,tho sometimes hard to find.If handloading 308 cases can be used in a pinch.For alight load try 120 gr. NBT with a starting powder load,instant 257 roberts.Had my 7-08 for 20 years and keep coming back to it.

Sounds like you getting yourself a good little rifle there. I think that you made a good choice WRT caliber and choice of rifle/scope.
