Went out this morning to complete this battle - was the perfect morning as zero wind......how often does that happen!
The set up - Tikka on the left and 453 on the right with target 50 m's away. Left target for the Tikka and right target for the CZ.
First up was comparing all my gopher rounds to see which rifle performed the best with said ammo.
To make this as fair as possible I used the same lot/box of ammo for each rifle going from the Tikka to the CZ, one brand at a time.
Did this on all 18 brands of gopher ammo. After each five shot group, I would fire 5 shots of the next brand off target to condition the barrel for the next 5 shot group of that ammo.
I also compared 4 brands of target ammo but did not fire 5 rounds between each brand change as did not have enough ammo on hand as wanted to try the 5 shot/5 groups in 1/2 inch challenge to see if I could make that happen:rolleyes:
In hindsight, I should of shot the target ammo first as after 3 hours of shooting my concentration was down not to mention my eyes were strained/blurred from looking through scopes for that long - still s##t ton of fun
The results were rather interesting as certain ammo brands performed well on one but poorly on the other.

The results:
For the Tikka, the smallest three gopher ammo groups were:
.269" - CCI Velocitor
.362" - CCI Segmented HP
.387 - CCI Mini-Mag 40 gr.

For the CZ, the smallest three gopher ammo groups were:
.437" - American Eagle 38 gr.
.454 - Federal H.V. Match. (Worst group with the Tikka )
.488 - Federal Hunter Match

For the Tikka, the largest three gopher ammo groups were:
1.331" - Federal HV Match
1.329 - Aguila Interceptor H.P.
1.295 - CCI Stinger

For the CZ, the largest three gopher ammo groups were:
1.210" - Blazer
1.101" - Aquila Super Extra H.P.
1.031" - Yellow Jackets

For the Tikka, the total average group size of all 20 groups = .834"
For the CZ, the total average group size of all 20 groups = .761"

Target ammo results: 5 shot groups with 5 groups of each ammo brand.

Tikka: CCI S.V = .516 average of all 5 groups
Sk Standard Plus = .426" average of all 5 groups
Sk Rifle Match = .391 average of all 4 groups (thought box was full but only had 40 rounds)
Lapua Center-X = .512 average of all 5 groups
Smallest Tikka group was .251" from Lapua Centre-X

CZ: CCI S.V. = .701 average of all 5 groups
Sk Standard Plus = .472" average of all 5 groups
Sk Rifle Match = .280" average of all 4 groups
Lapua Center-X = .591" average of all 5 groups
Smallest CZ group was .143" from Sk Rifle Match

Your post reflects a significant effort -- over three hours of shooting and more to measure and organize the information. What conclusions, if any, are you able to draw at this point?

The fact that there was no wind to effect the results and both rifles shot the same ammo lot within minutes apart, I was quite intrigued on the drop of certain ammo's on one rifle and not the other - that was probably my biggest surprise. Both rifles performed well on certain ammo's and failed hard on others that I thought would of performed well - the big take on all this...........the gopher ammo has the biggest variance, which like wind is uncontrollable. With that said, I will feel more confident on which ammo to take with which rifle to get a higher kill rate on the prairie rats on my future outings.
The best three ammo's for the Tikka turned out to be great carnage rounds so quite stoked about that :)
Both rifles have the potential to get into the 5 shot/5 round 1/2" list - specifically with Sk Rifle Match - which as luck would have it only had enough ammo for 4 groups.
I will be taking the top three ammo's for both rifles out again to see if I can duplicate the results - that should/could be interesting :)

Thanks, chevy.

Surprised how poorly the Center x did in both guns.

Different lots of the same ammo can shoot very differently. Some other lots of CX will do very well in the OP's rifle.

Shooters would do well to remember that its not "find the ammo brand your rifle likes" -- it's find the lots of ammo that your rifle likes.

You have away too much time on your hands. You should look for a job.

Thanks for the effort in testing and posting the results. This does help me move towards a Tikka T1X vs. a CZ.

Thanks for the effort OP, My T1X loves the RWS Target Rifle most, and Federal Target is second. Shot 5 rounds a group @50 yards. Both are 40gr, standard velocity, and lead round nose. I believe they both have potential to get in the 1/2" club. The diameter of red sticker is 3/4" . Worth a try of these two brands.

I decided to go with the top 10 gopher rounds to see what type of consistency I would get. I did this with the Target ammo as well.
Actually went out last week when the wind was still down and finally had time to combine all the data today.
Regarding the winner of this battle - it would be called a split decision.......for me, the Tikka just slightly if you go with the combined averages.
My take away - the data tells me which rifle to use for the specific ammo I have to achieve the best results :)
My hope is this data may give you some insight on what may work best for your Tikka or CZ - logical only in a perfect world ;-)

The results:
For the Tikka, the top 10 gopher ammo groups - this is a combined average of 3 - five shot groups:
#1 = .413” - CCI AR Tactical 40 gr.
#2 = .467" - CCI Velocitor
#3 = .539" - Hornady 40 gr.
#4 = .655” - American Eagle 38 gr.
#5 = .661” - Eley H.V. Match
#6 = .662” - Aguila Super Extra H.P.
#7 =. 679” - Federal Auto Match
#8 = .692” - CCI Segmented HP
#9 = .779” - Remington Yellow Jacket
#10 = .842” - Federal Value Pack

For the CZ, the top 10 gopher ammo groups were:
#1 = .473" - American Eagle 38 gr.
#2 = .509” - CCI Velocitor
#3 = .609" - Federal Auto Match
#4 = .628” - Federal Hunter Match
#5 = .641” - Federal H.V. Match
#6 = .659” - American Eagle 40 gr.
#7 = .695” - Hornady 40 gr.
#8 = .724” - CCI Stinger
#9 = .789” - Aguila Interceptor H.P.
#10 =.895” - Federal Value Pack

For the Tikka, the total average group size for the top 10 = .639"
For the CZ, the total average group size for the top 10 = .662"

Target ammo results: 5 shot groups with 5 groups of each ammo brand x’s 2
