Restricted Barrel for Walther PPK?

Hello Dlask,
With many prohibited Walther PPKs around in Canada would you be willing to build some 4.2" or 106mm replacement barrels so that the guns could be reclassified as restricted.

I want a PPK but cannot own as I do not have a 12.6.

The vast majority of PPKs are chambered 7.65 (32 ACP) which also makes them prohibited so a longer barrel alone would not get them into the restricted class. If the barrels were 106+ mm AND chambered in another calibre (.380 would be the obvious choice) then it would be doable. I believe the .380 cartridges will fit in the .32 mags but don't know if that will create feeding problems. I'm also guessing that the extractor might need some tweaking as the rim on the .380 is bigger (.374 vs. .358 for the 32 ACP).

It's definitely something that could be done but cost is the issue. If it was just a straight barrel swap and nothing else then maybe the cost to do a run a barrels would be reasonable if there was enough demand. If additional gunsmithing is required you're probably looking at $300-400 to convert a $400 prohib gun to restricted and I don't think a lot of people would be willing to pay that much.

I didn't know we even had banned ammo in Canada. Sorry, I thought we would only need a barrel swap.
So sad to see such beautiful guns stuck in prohib. With the added cost to convert to a larger caliber I don't think it would be feasible.

I would pay $600-800 to convert to restricted but I dont think that would cover the gunsmithing cost. I was just thinking it would be a barrel swap and reclassification cost.

I just found a post regarding using .30reid ammo.

That could work but I am not a reloader (yet). I respect Dlask as well and am a customer of theirs. They do great work so I thought to ask here

Putting a restricted barrel on a PPK makes them beyond ugly, IMHO!

The pp series look better with the longer barrel I think they are already like 3.8 or 3.9 inches I also would be interested in this service for a place in .380 then thread it with a little fake silencer and viola you have a James Bond gun

Bersa Thunder 380 costs about $400 and looks as good

Not IMO. Like a woman, beauty comes before functionality.
Lol, if you want to shoot a PPK in Canada, there is no other way. I like to shoot interesting pistols and want a PPK, be it extended barrel or whatever lol.

The Bersa is looks very nice! Maybe I'll go with a fake suppressor as well.

I may have a line on a company who might help. If this happens, I'll post an update in Pistols and revolvers forum.

Cheers,
Thor

I have a Walther PP in 9 mm kurtz with Interarms markings that I plan on getting a longer barrel. Depending on the next election and the wacko Liberals and how much they hate guns & if these bozos get in, I won't get this project done.

Is it true that you can shoot 38acp reliably in a 9mm Kurtz PP? There is one for sale here that might be better to convert than the 32acp I'm looking at.

Interesting find, there was a reddit post from 3 years ago stating that Dlask converted a 38acp PPK to a restricted barrel. I'll give them a call this week to see if they just did a single batch or are still able to convert.

I think there is some confusion here over calibre designation. .380 ACP and 9mm Kurz (9x17) are the same cartridge (.380 ACP is the North American designation and 9mm Kurz is the European designation) so a PP/PPK chambered in 9mm Kurz can shoot .380 ACP ammo with no problem.

38 ACP is a completely different calibre from.380 ACP. It's European designation is 9×23mm SR (semi-rimmed). You can see that it is considerably longer than the 9x17 and thus much more powerful which essentially makes it impractical for a blowback design gun such as the PP/PPK. In fact, 38 Super (which many 1911 are chambered for) is just a hotter loaded 38 ACP.

I know the designations look almost identical but .380 ACP is in no way the same as .38 ACP. A .32 ACP PP/PPK could fairly easily be converted to .380 ACP with just a barrel change but could not safely be converted 38 ACP. In fact given that the 38 ACP case is nominally 6mm longer than the 380 ACP it wouldn't even fit in a PP/PPK mag.

Hope this makes some sense.
