One piece stainless cleaning rods for 22LR reccomendations

Looking to source one piece stainless cleaning rods for a Canadian supplier - does any one have info on a supplier?
For those of you who use ss rods what are your thoughts and is there a brand better than others?

Pro Shot makes excellent one-piece stainless steel cleaning rods. With regard for use with a .22LR, they are available in .22 and .20 cal. diameters. Always use appropriate-sized patches. If they are too big and too tight, it will increase the risk of the rod bending and contacting the bore. Be aware that not all jags marked .22 are the same diameter -- some are a little wider than others.

I used a Tipton carbon fiber .22 rod for years, but it eventually broke at the base of the handle. The Pro Shot rod is very well made and should last a long time.
 
Caution... Sometimes a 22 cleaning rod will not actually fit in your specific barrel.

I have 2 rifles that will not accept 22 cal cleaning rods.

So I had to buy 177 cal cleaning rods.

Additionally, I had to sand down the diameter of the cleaning jag so it would fit.

It all just depends on how the specific manufacturers likes to balance between the major and minor diameters when designing the rifling.

Usually a 22 cal rod fits, but not always.
 
Too frequently threads about cleaning methods or equipment contain misinformation, misunderstanding, or plain error of fact.

It is very unusual for a .22 cal cleaning rod to be actually .22" in diameter. The same is true of a .20 cal rod. To illustrate, a Pro Shot .22 cleaning rod measures .203" in diameter, while the .20 rod is .187". (I just measured my Pro Shot cleaning rods.) Both will fit in a .22LR bore easily. I favour the .20 rod which, because of its slimmer size, will have less chance of rubbing the rifling in the bore than the .22 cal rod.

As for CZ barrels being different -- they are not. CZ, like most European firearms makers, manufactures its .22LR bores by law to CIP specifications, which is 5.38mm (.212") with 5.58mm (.220") groove diameter. Barrels manufactured to SAAMI specs have more generous dimensions, with the bore at .217" (5.51mm) and the grooves at .222" (5.64mm).

What catches some rods with CZ rifles is the ejector, which has nothing to do with the bore itself. Care has to be exercised with regard to the ejector. Even the Tipton carbon fiber .22 cal rod I used in the past fit .22LR CZ bores with ease.

A .17 cal cleaning rod, which is less than .17" in diameter, will easily fit a .22 bore, but it is at greater risk of touching the inside of the bore and as a result is often avoided by .22LR shooters.
 
My plastic coated Dewey cleaning rod measures 0.206" and will not fit in my CZ 452, not even at the muzzle.
It will not fit my Anschutz model 54 either.

It does fit any of my 223s though and any other 22LR I have besides those mentioned above. It fits my 1022, BRNO semi auto, Savage semi auto and an old Winchester.

I've never heard of a 20 cal cleaning rod, but I'll have to look into that.

Im using a .22cal Pro Shot in my 40x. I was going to use a .20cal but the length was borderline long enough and the proshot rod was the only one i could find with a small enough handle to clear the stock without rubbing and bending the rod.

A twenty cal cleaning rod is the perfect size for .22LR -- not too thin and not too thick. They may not be available in the longest lengths that are sometimes needed. I've used the .20 Pro Shot on my 69cm (27.2") Anschutz barrels without issue (no tuner).

The CZ bore dimensions are as I've described, at no less than .212". The Czech Republic, where CZ firearms are made, is a country that adheres to CIP. That means by law CZ firearms are made to CIP specifications. Anschutz also follow CIP specs. Bores made to SAAMI specs have wider dimensions at .217".

Perhaps your coated rod is not of a uniform dimension, possibly the coating becoming slightly expanded for some reason, especially where it's put into the bore. If it is .206" it is smaller than CIP bore dimensions.
 
So I got onto the Dewey web site and sure enough they have a 20 cal rod called out for 22LR, but they don't actually state the actual diameter.

The largest gage pin that will go into the muzzle on my CZ452 is in fact 0.212, but the cleaning rod that measures .206 will not, like you stated... probably because of inconsistencies in the plastic coating over the length of the rod. It just needs more clearance than 0.003" per side.

I'd have to remove the muzzle brake on one of the 223s to measure that... Just too much trouble at the moment, but I'll check next time I clean one of them.

If you go with the Dewey Rod you will need the adapter and all the attachments for a Dewey system.
Something to think about.

I use .20 cal Ivy Stainless steel rods. Ivy rods are not made anymore so when I need replacement, I will go with Pro Shot stainless steel also in .20 cal.
Like Glenn said, use a proper bore guide.
