Got most of my layers covered...base, mid and fleece pants but trying to find a pair of good waterproof/windproof pants that aren't camo. I was looking at the Kuiu Axis (https://www.kuiu.com/global/hunting-pants/axis-hybrid-pant/40015.html), but I'd prefer something I can try on locally (Calgary) before dealing with online orders/returns/etc. Recommendations?

MEC makes good goretex winter pants. They have a couple of options. I always wear them snowmobiling and walking in lots of snow at work and never get wet or windchilled. A lot cheaper than other options too.

I used to buy lots of stuff at MEC, their house branded gear was always pretty good and good value. But since they’ve shown themselves to be anti hunting I’ve stopped buying there.

Those Kuiu pants only seem to be only waterproof in the seat and knees unless I'm reading it wrong. Maybe that's all you are after though.
Thanks for the heads up, I've been meaning to check out their store in vancouver. I've seen them mentioned on CGN a few times, their prices are reasonable, especially since they're made in Canada.
I try to buy when they have a sale on.
Goretex, wash regularly with proper soap, dry in dryer, iron then spray with goretex surface spray.
Even then it will leak.....

Like others have said, a good pair of work pants. Quite honestly, I gave up buying overpriced "hunting" clothes a long time ago. For a fraction of the cost you can get better gear from a store that sells safety equipment / work clothes for tradespeople and construction workers. I use a good pair of canadian-made wool pants that belonged to a relative before I got them. So far the animals don't seem to care.

The MEC that tried to ruin Savage Arms went bankrupt as a result and the name was bought out by an American company that has no such policy. IMHO it's OK to buy from those folks and I'm a bit of a fanatic on the subject- I still resist buying from Bushtukah and The Running Room for instance, even though they quickly dropped the issue when they saw what happened to the old MEC.

Some thoughts on the topic here: An alternative to outer pants are a pair of long johns, ideally in wool but synthetics can be good too. Woolen outer pants- buy them large- are also excellent in real cold, there was a Quebec company that sold an excellent pair for that but I don't get buried in ads from them anymore so maybe they're out of business. A tip from the old time bucherons and farmers back home is simply to wear an ordinary pair of ragged old pants over a pair that don't have any holes in them, I used to do that for woods wear as a teenager and it beats freezing.
I bought a couple sets of Cabela's snow camo outerwear a couple years back when it was on sale. I ended up being very impressed with the fabric as it is tough, quiet and the snow does not stick to it at all. I highly recommended it as an inexpensive over-wear option.
