hey fellas, was lookin over my rifle since unpacking from the hunt, i noticed the stock has a hole in it LOL

where the bolt throws back to the butt, it doesnt touch, not even close, but on the LH side theres a hole, im guessing from sitting it down on the earth, a rock or something....
makes me wonder, how fricken thin is this thin and WHAT do you do once ya put a hole in it LOL? just fill it with some epoxy? or smooth the hole over i mean.?

I know from working with Wildcat Composites fiberglass stocks that if you can reach in the hole with some little hook tools to scratch some of the foam filling out, then you could backfill the hole with some epoxy that flows nicely. I used JB Minute Weld wherever I had to make a hole or cut through the shell and it's held up fine. The more foam you scratch out the better cuz you're getting more surface area of the fiberglass shell to bond to. Hopefully this helps. My Wildcat stock is on a Kimber Hunter barrelled action. I'm really impressed with that rifle, the cartridge sized CRF action, 8-40 scope mounts, lightweight, accurate, and a trigger that only needs adjusting not replacement...hard to beat!

Hey Steve!
Thanks for the info.

I had a close up look, an the original colour of the stock has chipped, an in doing so exposed some "Black" underneath!

its minor, im sure i can proberly just fill this particular with a basic super glue lol, but if it does happen to go larger or more often in places that are copping some abuse, then i will need to re do it.

interesting...

do you know what a replacement kimber stock costs? or one on par with the weight of?

You could probably buy a hunter stock on the EE for a few hundred tops. I know when I sold mine on there that there was another one for sale at the same time.

The Wildcat that I fitted to mine was tricky because it was inletted for a Rem 700 short action so nothing really lined up, but I made it work. A blind mag style would be easier than the BDL style (what I used), but both are still tricky.
If you feel like doing that yourself, then a stock from Stewart at Wildcat Composites plus a mag box, trigger guard, and some different action screws will total around $700 after tax and shipping for everything sourced separately. A Wildcat stock can be finished even lighter than the Kimber stock by 4-10oz.

If you think you might want to fit a Wildcat stock then I can let you know how I did mine to get you started :)

You fit a Wildcat Rem 700 SA stock to a Kimber Hunter? Any detailed pics of the bedding?

The likelihood of finding a used Montana stock for sale is about on par with getting a clear photo of Sasquatch riding a unicorn at high noon. They just don't come up very often, or at all.
Replacing a Montana stock with a Hunter stock is throwing away some of the features that make a Montana a fantastic bargain for the money.

I don't think anyone makes a specific stock for a Montana that would be a drop in inlet, there isn't a market for replacement of them. You might be able to get a Wildcat imported to AUS but you are going to be up there in $$$ and time, and for the amount of work that you would have to put into it to make it fit quasi-properly you are still money time and effort ahead to simply sand down the finish on your existing Montana stock and repaint it.
I've seen a few threads on US forums where guys have tried to get Montana stocks directly from Kimber and there has been very limited success on that front as far as I recall.
