A while back I’d finally had enough of the Ruger logo that is laser etched on the floorplate. So I took a file to it. That, of course took the hideous Hawkeye grey suede finish off as well. Several hours of hand polishing with various backers and grits of sand paper and the rest is finally done. I also replaced the front sight blade with a fibre optic one from NECG. A vast improvement. With a new finish, sight, extractor, and a bit of burr removal to facilitate feeding this thing is starting to take shape. :)

Looking good. Mine had some sharp rails and a sharp edge on the mouth of the chamber that would scratch and gouge my brasses. I had Dennis smooth them out when he bedded it in the McMillan stock.

Removing that logo was the first I did when I had 416 ruger years ago, second was bead blasting the dirty grey finish off.

Now you need to replace your cross bolt with a stainless version. ;)

Stainless #1’s have stainless grip caps. My guess is they are all the same size... order an extra brass center when you order one. They get ruined removing them - at least the way I take them out.

One thing to consider is to make a small apart parts list for these guns and buy them
They never made a lot of spare parts for the old model 77 458 magnum rifles
