Looking at perhaps upgrading to the 7 shot .357mag GP100 and wondering if anyone has one yet?
I know there were issues in the past but I think Ruger had ironed things out.?

I was doing more reading and it looks like issues were with .38 special.
Ruger has changed the design since then and now all domestic cases fit.
Also looks like ammunition manufacturers got word of the issue and have made corrections as well.
I know the seven shot 686 has a larger diameter cylinder so less/no issues.
I'll enjoy my six shooter for a few more years and then maybe upgrade.

Appreciate it but, I'm not a S&W fan.
###y gun however.

The only reason I don't like S&W revolvers is due to their mechanics.
Much easier to work on a Ruger yourself.
True that a Ruger trigger will never be the same as a S&W, but can get pretty darn close.
If I don't end up getting a new Python, I may however end up with Performance Center 627 next year.
Wicked ###y gun!

I recently got the 6" version of the 7 shot. It's a newer one, shipped in 2020, and I'm very happy with it.

I have not experienced the issue with spacing in the cylinder that some of the earlier models had, where sometimes cases with rims at the wider end of the SAAMI spec would touch together and bind. I've tried around 5 or 6 different types of brass in 38 and 357. It looks like they got the cylinder dimensions right.

Compared to other GP100s I've had, the finish is a bit nicer and the action is smoother. It feels great in the hand with the factory rubber with wood panel grips. I used to have an SP101 in 357, and it wasn't fun shooting 357 with those grips because the trigger guard rapped my fingers with each shot. But this style of grip works just fine on this GP100. Just the weight difference between a 6" GP100 and 4.2" SP101 would make a difference in recoil, and I think the handle dimensions are a bit different as well. Anyway, the factory grip is very comfortable to hold and shoot and I like the look.

Thank you for sharing and answering!
I gave up long ago but I now have renewed interest!

Do you remember what ammo you've tried so far?

Yes, in terms of what I've actually shot: Federal, R-P (Remington), Blazer, and Winchester.

I also loaded brass, with a few cylinder-full samples for each, IVI, S&B, and Starline. For all cylinder fulls I tried for all these brands (including the ones in the paragraph above), I was able to spin the cylinder and rotate the end of brass with my thumb, i.e., free spinning and not touching.

Thanks for the update, much appreciate it!
I'll be looking real hard at this as an upgrade after a few major purchases are done.

I have a 6, not 7 round. Primers must be seated fully or they bind, locking up the gun. Tolerances are tight.

Yes, the tolerance in that dimension does seem to be pretty tight. With my previous, 6 shot GP100, I found that shooting with IMR4227 led to grains getting under the extractor, preventing me from closing the cylinder. Maybe I could have figured out a load that burns the powder better, but I just stopped using that powder once I was done with the container. I also had a few instances where my primers weren't quite all the way in and the cylinder would bind. I just shot those from my 357 bolt action rifle.
