Well , as I am deciding which bore-scope to get and cleaning the barrel a final time for a smith to inspect. I decided to grab my magnifier and took a looky-poo inside the muzzle.

Here is a video , it shows it a bit...

With the nekid eye and the magnifier you can very clearly see linear gouges and machine marks running parallel to the rifling. The marks on on the grooves and lands and edges of the lands are compromised also. Not sure if this correlates to the worble on the exterior of the barrel but it is sure in the same area...

How says all of you?

My humble apologies for the photo and video quality but I did what I could with the tools I have.

I am certainly no expert on this, but couldn't help but notice that your lands to not appear to be "sharp" - I think I am more used to seeing nearly right angles at top edges of rifling and where the lands meet the groove bottom. And shiny surfaces. But I am an old guy, so maybe new stuff has been designed differently these days. Just a comment - worth what you paid for it??? Edit: I meant what you paid for my comment, not what you paid for the barrel...

Cut off and crown would improve accuracy I am pretty sure... if it does, that was the problem. The barrel may be replaced free but the labour usually is not... You will be out regardless.

I would really like to hear the barrel makers comments about this...

Thanks for looking Guntech , my issue is, what if there are other defects in this barrel ? Did it miss QC checks? Bad tooling ?

I will be in contact again with Benchmark tomorrow or early in the week.

Now I have to show them this to show that it wasn't me, and the next person that says to run flat based bullets through is going to be driving me to the hospital for meds themselves. :)

I'd say you've suffered long enough. Unscrew that barrel and send it back to Benchmark. The cost of the barrel is only part of the loss. What a piss off.

I would pull the barrel and send it to Benchmark for their inspection and comments. Give a detailed cost of components used and smithing costs... that's for sympathy's sake.
