I'm just wondering what everyone's experience is with the Cabelas Covenant scopes?

I checked them out the other day and they seem to be pretty decent for the price. They have decent glass, thebturrets feel ok, and they have (what I consider) a nice reticle.

I also like the price point. $449 for a 6-24×50 gets you under the $500 mark for precision Rimfire.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

I have a couple and they are pretty good scopes for the money . The 4-16 power gives you more useable elevation adjustment in the turrets and IMHO its better suited as a scope for PRS.

I've got one 6-24×50 ffp.
Had it on a 22-250, it failed in less than 100 rds.
They replaced it but I haven't tried the replacement yet.

Interesting. How did it fail? What kinda warranty do they come with? When you have a warranty claim, are you able to take it back to the store or do you have to ship it somewhere?

recoil likely shook up the insides of the scope - probably more suitable for rimfire type of recoil -

Elevation no longer elevated, no up or down adjustment on knob...:(

Much more favourable reviews for Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16 in the same price range. One shooter I talked to said his cabelas elevation clicks were not the actually full value.

for the price you might as well buy vortex. At least you get a life time warranty.

I had a Covenant 7 on my AR 15 last season.
I bought it new (on sale about 12% off) and I was very happy with it.
Sold it this past June for a fair price and I am kicking myself in the a$$ for parting ways with it.

People who are sh#ting on these scopes might be comparing them to higher end scopes.

These scopes do not compare in quality to something like a Nightforce ..... but compared to other scopes in its price range, your actually getting quite a lot...

*clean glass (comparable to Ziess IMO)
*3 to 21 magnification range
*zero stop elevation
*first focal plane (which I found the hash-marks tracked perfectly)

The only two things I did not like about the Covenant 7 was that it didn't have was an illuminated reticle, and it had a 34 mm tube (sucks trying to find rings/unimount in this size)

Yes, Life time warranty, because Guaranteed you are going to need it, LoL

I'm not a vortex fanboy at all but for the same price you might as well go with them as cabelas warranty is only for 1 year and i'm sure they ain't built any better than vortex.

Vortex 6-24x50 is production class for CRPS. Limit is $700 for scopes and $500 for the gun. The majority of my useage is for ORPS/CRPS.

Between myself and my wife we have a Covenant 6-24, VDT 4-16, and a VDT 6-24.

For a variety of reasons IMHO the VDT 4-16 is the best production class scope for CRPS. The VDT 6-24 is the best production class scope for ORPS and the Covenant is vastly inferior to both of the Vortex options in my safe.

Any money you save buying the covenant now will be lost when you try and resell it in a couple years. Not to mention unless you handle your gun with kid gloves and always shoot off a bench in relaxed conditions... Then at some point that delicate precision optical instrument is getting some rough treatment. Most likely it'll be fine... But if you get the VDT the the worst possible result of an accident is you'll be without the scope for a couple weeks and you'll be short the $30 shipping cost.
