I purchased a new SD9 kit and during the first trip to the range the front sight fell off, it simply slides through the dovetail with zero resistance. I only owned the gun for a week and this was my first time using it, I probably fired approximately 60 or 70 rounds through it.

I contacted thegundealer.net in McAdam where I purchased the gun and they wanted me to ship the gun to them for repair...but I had to pay for shipping??? I explained I just bought the gun and have only owned it a week and I feel shouldn't have to pay for shipping. I couldn't get anywhere with the guy on the phone so I found Wolverine Supplies is the authorized warranty provider for Smith & Wesson Canada and they promptly had an RA# for me with a prepaid shipping label.

Wolverine has had my SD9 for about 4 weeks now and I heard back from them that their gunsmith talked to S&W and they are sending a replacement front sight, but here's the kicker, they tell me it could take up to several months for them to receive it!

I don't know what to do at this point. This is my first pistol and I thought I was buying a decent one from a reputable name, I know it's not a high end model but I didn't expect to have any problems with it. Do I have any other options, are there other sights I could have installed?

I feel your pain. I am going through the exact same problem with my sights but with Ruger. I have been waiting patiently since mid June. Due to covid items coming into Canada from the US has been very very slow. I refused to send the gun in and had aftermarket sights installed locally. Its not an ideal situation after spending hundreds on a new gun that was suppose to be quality controlled and checked. I have several guns that are over 30 years old and all I can say is that they dont make them like they use to.

Thanks for the reply. At this point I'm willing to pay for aftermarket sights and have them installed. Im not sure what sights are available for it, I don't want to spend a fortune for them as it a lower end model pistol.

What model Ruger? I was just looking at Rugers, I was considering purchasing something else while I wait for my SD9.

It takes the same sights as the M&P..I changed my cheap-o plastics over to TruGlo Fiber Optic and am very pleased. May be an option...

I have a Ruger SR9. I just looked up replacement sights for your SD9 and it appears that any M&P aftermarket sights will work on your gun. Someone in the forum will correct me if I am wrong.

I would suggest you buy an M&P9, much better pistol for not much more money, let the warranty fix the SD9 and sell it when you get it returned to you. The M&P is a hell of a lot more gun for the dollars, you won't regret it, the SD9 is at best an entry level gun and I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone imho

When buying a firearm in Canada you must assume there will be little to no warranty support. Between parts taking forever to arrive, work approval, border regulations, miscommunications, $hitty gunsmith work etc. you might as well learn to be a gunsmith yourself.

The M&P range kit is was what I originally wanted but I didnt have the funds, at this point I wish I would have went ahead with it. Still one shouldn't have to endure downtime due to a faulty product simply because it's the brands lower end model, it should still perform its basic function without failure...especially during it's first use. I now agree with you though, I would not recommend the SD9 to anyone after my experience.

This is what I've done in all my other hobbies, unfortunately I'm learning that it applies to this hobby as well.

So the same parts issue Grech had is affecting Wolverine. Maybe it's just SW?? I have bought parts of all sorts with no issues and had warranty repair done by Snapshots with turnaround measured in days. What's the difference?

My m and p came with paint missing rear sight, years ago sd9 front sight fell out....686 barrel installed indexed wrong????what the hell s and w....and warrenty in canada for s andw sucks

Ask Wolverine what they have in stock to replace it, probably have something that will work.

"we are not permitted to install any aftermarket parts on S&W firearms in-house due to our contract with Smith & Wesson, so while we could certainly sell you the sight, we aren’t able to install it here"
