Last weekend a couple of us went off to Hullett Marsh (in ON). 3 hrs of plodding the bush and standing corn fields (the situation more compounded since we don't own dogs)......saw only a couple of cockbirds that flushed beyond range cackling loud enough to wake the dead 
On our way out, we decided to check out one more area.....it was more like a casual stroll when all of a sudden a hen flushed out of a small tuft of grass aprox 25 yds to my left......I've been exposed to this kind of surprise burst many many times in the past and admittedly, I still get taken by surprise to this day
Well, I had a clear shot and I still missed what was a fairly large Pheasant hen
Needless to say, the fast hen did not offer me an opportunity to use that left bbl.
And well deserved, the bird used only it's God given qualities to escape the clutches of Man who is more successful (but not always
) only due to the fact that he now carries around a superior hunting implement otherwise known as the Shotgun
