Well, my wife has taken a shine to my Sako Finnlight, so it looks like I'm gonna be buying a new deer rifle in the new year. Have decided it will be a .260 rem or 6.5x55, but unsure which manufacturer yet.

Does anyone CURRENTLY chamber a .260rem or 6.5x55 in STAINLESS, other than Sako??

remington *used* to chamber the 260 in stainless guns (for 2007 it is only available in the Model Seven CDL (Blued/Walnut)

previous they chambered it in the 700 LSS mtn, Model Seven SS, Model 700 SSDM, and 700 Titanium

build a custom rifle off any stainless action you want, that is the best way to go

WS shows the T3 light stainless/synthetic in both right & left in 6.5x55mm. Also shows the T3 light blued synthetic in .260 in right hand and 6.5x55mm in both right and left. They also show the T3 hunter [blued with wood stock] in both .260 & 6.5x55mm. But not in the T3 laminated stainless. Whether they actually have any is another story... ;)

I know SIR has a model 7 stainless 260, I checked on availability yesterday! Of course, in the meantime, I ran into a LSS mtn rifle in 270 at a very decent price!

Wish they'd offer the Rem 700 SPS stainless in it with the 24" barrel.... :(

Like Tod said, with the base price of an SPS, get a stainless one in .308 Win or .30-06 and screw in a a new barrel of your choice and you're good to go at a modest price

I've got a Rem factory stainless take-off barrel already factory chambered in .260 Rem on the mountain rifle contour for sale right now on the EE parts forum. That would go nicely on an SPS short action with the .473" boltface to make an instant SPS 'mountain rifle' in .260 Rem...

Was thinking about going this route, especially if I can get a used SPS SS. As for new, I figured $700 +tx, new barrel $600, and a decent stock $300 = $1600 +/-. For the same $$ I can go with a Finnlight .260 or 6.5.

I looked at your ad, but not sure if I want a mountain barrel. I'm partial to a heavier contour and maybe fluted. If they'd offer the CDL SF in .260 I'd be all set.:)

That was my thought. I too want a sporter in .260 Rem with a heavier profile barrel than a mountain rifle contour...
