Should I shoot my SP1??

Shoot it! The only way you'd get a decent price for it is if you could export it to the US. Right now there seems to be some kind of resurgence in the "retro" AR movement and SP1s seem to be in demand. They were selling for a pretty good price during the decade of the Brady Bill/Assault Weapon's Ban as well.

A couple years ago ,lucked into a rare sniper piece from an estate UNFIRED by the previous deceased owner ( cosmoline in the chamber ) I agonized about firing it for a long time , wifey , knowing my delima said , " Look what happened to the last fellow that did'nt fire it , he never got to fully enjoy it" !! Shoot it ? Sure !! I've got a couple one manned in the
60's.
They are "Fired" --- very carefully but ,---NOT plinked with , Nice piece of history IMHO!

Don't shoot it... use it for fondling while watching "Tour of Duty" Reruns on History Channel. :D ;)

:p I dragged it out last night in time for "the unit" :jerkit:

I'm looking at getting another AR 'cause my H-BAR is frightfully heavy.

I hadn't shot it in @8 years and was surprised at how freakin' load that sproingy sound was

The SP1 was tooooooo good a deal to pass up, but it looks better each time I look at it.

The only marks on it are from dragging the bolt over the magnesium followers...

just remember that she may not like the same fodder as your later one- all to do with barrel twist

I have one of the old SP1 colts.I do shoot it on ocassion.:D
KevinB said no heavier than 55 grn rds because of the 1 in 12
twist.Could cause some problems and tumble to go heavier.

Dude it's a bunch of metal stuck together in such a way that it goes bang when you put bullets in it. it is made to shoot the #### out of it. so shoot the #### out of it. you probably won't break it, and if you do just buy another. It's probably not worth investing a whole lot of emotional commitment into inanimate objects no matter the historical and sentimental value. cuz one day you will die and won't be able to shoot anyway so it's better to have spent your life blazing away with your ar than dreaming about it while biting your fingernails. i got anice colt sp1 too and i have no qualms about givin'er with it. i think it would be cool to wear it out or break it just to see what it could take.
