Best over/under for clays, mid priced.

Yes, you can lay out 15K for a new Beretta DT 11 but a Citori Sporting Gun will last the average guy a lifetime.
 
Not a whole separate topic when talking money and cost of gun. If you are going to shoot a lot then you will burn a ton of money in ammo and clays so get a good gun you will enjoy. That usually means more than $ 2000.

I ordered Citori 12 g firepin & spring from j.p. products. The online image shows the top fire pin which has no shoulder for the spring like the bottom one does.

Browning.com parts, list only one spring ref# 30 part# b1334164 under... the top pin ref# 28 part# b1334148 does not show a spring for the top pin.

The OP posted 3K as a limit for purchase, owns other shotguns and shoots them, so a good chance that he knows the cost of targets and ammo. He’s looking for recommendations on a gun in his price range not if he can afford to shoot it.

Fireguy you are correct, just watched a video on replacing firing pins and there is no spring for the top firing pin. I stand corrected, thank you

I patterned my Lanber and both barrels shoot 50/50. (man that gun kicks!)
my semis shoot mostly at poa, and a few hits just a tad high.
I'm really torn up between the CX or CXS.

There could be a few reasons your gun kicks, to suggest a fix here it would be hard to do.

I can see why you are torn on the browning line up. there is 3 models in the line up and each has a difference poi.
Browning states:
cxt is High shooting 70/30 POI is ideal for trap
cx POI – 60/40 point of impact, suitable for all target disciplines
cxs POI – 50/50 point of impact, suitable for sporting clays, skeet and field
The cxt I think is the only one which has ported barrels

My main shooting is trap so i got the cxt.

I think the cx is the best all round gun. I use a semi for sporting, if had only one gun I would have got the cx over the cxt. but either one you go with you can't go wrong
 
My advice is buy a gun you have a natural affinity towards with regards fit. I can’t stand brownings, I’ve had beretta 682 skeet, silver pigeon and dt10 over the years all were more natural to me shooting wise then any browning I tried. However, my latest gun is 32inch barrelled Caesar Guerini summit impact. It has the Dts balancing system and it is balanced perfectly on the barrel hinge. It stock has the perfect pitch for my chest and the grip fits my hand perfectly. I say this not to push you towards a CG but rather to highlight that we can all give a gun recommendation. However, we aren’t all built the same or even have the same mount. People can really only offer generalization. Get a B gun or CG, or a Winchester 101. The reality is you would be better buying the best feeling and fitting gun to you. If that happens to be a gun at the bottom of your price range then great however if it happens to be one that’s a little out of your range. My suggestion is save a little longer, life is too short and shooting rounds of Skeet/sporting to expensive to do it with a less then great feeling gun. A gun that gives you confidence and makes you feel that you can’t miss is were it is at; Don’t get to hung up on price and name.
 
Any of the ''B'' guns and yes I know it is a cliche'.
But, shopping for opinion is an expensive way to buy guns.
I really liked the looks of the Beretta 686 and could never really afford one.
Well, I could , but never took the plunge .
Fit and finish of the gun was/is impressive and the gun case , well it was plastic, but it held everything needed.
No matter how much I wanted to hand over $2600 it just wouldnt come up to my shoulder and point comfortably.
Ended up with a Citori for a few years and eventually found my way back to a pump gun.
Yup, must be a fudd.
Try them out at the Range, I am 99% certain you will find guys willing to test the fit and function ...
Thats just my experience.

With the current COVID thing, some ranges are having a no-sharing-equipment rule and that's putting a damper on shotgun fitting.
