It's good to find a vibrant forum such as this. By way of introduction I am Duffer, but don't let that lead to the conclusion I am like a novice golfer. Far from it. I have two Dan Wesson .445 Supermags, an Hammerli, a Ruger, and a S&W handgun. While I don't currently possess a rifle, I have owned a Win. M-70 in .300 Weatherby (classic caliber for 1989) and a Sako in .300 Imperial I converted to .300 RUM. I now have a Sako TRG-S in .338 Lapua, but it's back in Michigan, I live in Germany, and it doesn't have a scope on it anyway.

My situation is thus - the United States has gone mad, lead by King George and a rabble of neocons bent on assuring party loyalty and victory by any means necessary. Let's just state the whole truth; the US has had a flirtation with fascism for decades, and now they have altered the laws in such a manner that the US cannot change back for many decades to come. I am seeking to become a Canadian citizen through the Provincial Nominee Program. Just about any province will do, but I see neither Ontario nor Quebec find social workers a critical need.

Anyone needing to hire a social worker is welcome to contact me. Anyone who can tell me if my two Dan Wesson's (interchangible barrels, but one is 6-inches and the other is 10-inches) are legal in Canada is assuredly my friend.

I can't help with the immigration stuff, but if your Dan Wesson's are not .25
or .32 calibre, which I doubt, and if the barrels are IN EXCESS of 105mm they fall under the restricted category. That means you would have to take the Firearms Safety and Restricted Firearms Safety courses./and or/ challenge the tests. Then you would need to join a club and have them apply for an Authorization to Transport (for ON) other provinces, you apply for the ATT yourself. I cannot comment on what hoops you have to jump through to bring your guns into the country, but they would have to be registered.
 
Importing firearms from Germany should be no problem. My friend bought a German made handgun from the US. It was easier to send it to Canada via Germany then trying to get it sent direct.

Are you a German or US citizen?????????

True to the utmost degree, I have spent more than a few days in the US on visits/business and just passing through. I consider myself slightly Pro-American, BUT definitely Anti-George Bush.

Someday he will have to leave the White House and shortly after the world will truly know how many true friends he HAD, and how much political damage he has done.

I just do not get it, his father although just a oil/businessman, (smart man in my opinion though)but he surrounded himself with talented advisors, his son, ole Georgie boy is certainly lacking in a few departments, especially in his foreign policy.
Perhaps Georgie boy would have been a better person today IF he had served in Vietnam?

Who knows?!?

I can neither help you with employment nor give any more advice on importing your arms beyond what has already been offered.
Canada is a great country to be in, despite its shortcomings.
Given the opportunity to move to a gun friendly state... I might consider it.
This country has become far too socialist for my tastes.

The biggest issues with the US involve media control. While decrying the "liberal press" is popular, over 93% of all articles and programs are decidedly conservative. You see, in the Reagan era we abandoned the Equal Accessclause to our Federal Communications Commission. It was successfully argued that the US had a plethora of news sources and diversity. This allowed Rush Limbaugh to assail people at will, knowing he didn't have to give equal access to a differing opinion.

And then George Bush happened. He removed limits on media consolidation and we no longer have the diversity of opinion and our options for differing viewpoints pretty much went away. The people get their pre-digested conservative news and that's about all.

Unaccountable, the conservatives changed many laws and regulations while instituting rule changes. By virtue of these rule changes, if the democrats come to power, they can do very little to reverse what the republicans have built. The pendulum will swing back, but it will happen decades after I have been buried.

Now regarding the Dan Wesson revolvers, they have interchangible barrels. Options for the .445 Supermag go as short as 4-inches, but options for the 44 magnum went as short as 2-inches. Would the capability of mounting a 2-inch barrel render the revolvers unfit for Canada?

All my firearms remain in the U.S. as I am a U.S. citizen and found I needed to go through lengthy training and licensure for their use in Germany. My job in Germany will soon end, and I can return to handloading in Michigan.

Incidentally, I wrote to many of the powder and bullet manufacturers inquiring of reduced loads for the .338 Lapua. I got a whole bunch of good data straight from the pros.

Neither does anyone else have to give "equal access", as adjudicated by an inevitably-biased government agency. That's why Al Franken and the like can do whatever they want to as well. That's why NPR can say what it wants, and why Michael Moore can do a 'documentary' without airing an opposing opinion.

It's called freedom. If you don't want it, stay in Germany - or at least out of Canada.
 
Lots of room here in Newfoundland. Just beginning our boom here, so the housing is cheap! And your guns are welcome as well:D And I do believe we are in need of social workers, but I'd have to confirm that;)

That's right... little "freedom" here.
Well that's not completely true... We're free to pay high taxes for sup-grade services

I'm afraid that if you're going to be nasty to Rush then we can never be friends....:(

It must be some other United States that you are talking about that has a conservative media bias. The great country that I know so well, north of Mexico can't be it.

I don't understand all the anti-bush stuff....would you rather have the Democrats in office? You may get your chance with Hillary or Osama....either way, say goodbye to your guns. At least Bush is "gun friendly" and won't be pushed around by the Liberals...sorry Democrats.
 
With your Dan Wesson's it is the short barrel that is prohibited. People have had guns rebarreled and we have some weird looking 3 1/2in. barreled guns that now have a 4 1/2 in. barrels with 1 in. sticking out the front of the slide.

Welcome to CGN

My wife is an American. She was in the US Army and stationed in German for 9 years. She immigrated to Canada and let me tell you its no easy task. It is time consuming and costly.
