good evening,

I go for my Black Badge at the start of October. Just getting all my gear together and i'm very excited to try my hand at competitive shooting. With covid becoming a permanent fixture of society what can I expect for options in B.C and Vancouver island preferably. I'm not familiar with how/where these events usually take place and im hoping there's still a chance to compete against more than 4 people at a time. Seems like social distancing is achievable for an event like this from the videos i've watched. Basically just wondering if any events are still happening, and if you got any tips/advice for a newbie I would appreciate it.

Cheers, Logan

Lots of opportunities available at the moment, that could change with one announcement from the Health authorities, but for now there are IDPA events, Speed Steel, Tactical Pistol and DSS events at Chilliwack, and numerous events at Abbotsford., I don't shoot IPSC so someone else will have to chime in on that, but I will let you know that you can shoot IDPA without a Black Badge, that is required to shoot IPSC, IDPA only requires that you demonstrate the ability to safely draw, shoot and reholster your firearm.
We are running a Tac Pistol event in Chilliwack this Saturday as a matter of fact :)

Is a black badge required to shoot in islbc?
I'm not sure but they are IPSC based matches so I will guess yes. Kevin Wheatcroft and Jim Wilbur are or were two main players on the island. I haven't shot a island league match in years. Looks like they are still active because there is a match on Sept. 20th. Best to contact the league directly for current info.

OP disappeared?

Is a black badge required to shoot in islbc?

The Victoria Fish and Game (VFGPA) also runs IPSC style matches under the guise of South Island Action Shooters (SIAS). ISL BC holds matches at Victoria Fish and Game, Nanaimo Fish and Game and Campbell River. Usually we will have 1 SIAS match and 1 ISL match per month throughout the season, usually on a non-interference basis with IPSC BC. VFGPA and Nanaimo usually also host 2 IPSC qualifiers each per year.

You do not need black badge to shoot in SIAS or ISL but you do need local certification. VFGPA runs a Holster course and an Action Shooting Safety course which are required prior to competing (these are not required if you have your Black Badge). These courses are a few hours each and usually run 1 to 2 times per month at a cost of $20.

I am the Match Director for SIAS and occasionally ISL. If you are interested you could come up and check out a match. Feel free to PM me for more info.
