My rifle shoots better than I can!

Everyone shoots different. I was out today with my brother, swapping him a 270 for his 7x57 because he was tired of it and wanted a little more boom. I already had loads worked up and zeroed it, it was shooting MOA dead center.
So I let him try it, 3 rounds all to the right about 4 inches, maybe 3" group.
I shot 3 rounds, all dead center, MOA.
After a few more rounds he was shooting much tighter, but still to the right about 2", so gave the scope a few clicks and he was drilling the bull out after that.

Found this out with the wife. When she was a wee tyke her right arm was broken between the elbow and shoulder and wasn’t set right so it healed crooked.
Put a scope on her 7-08 and dialed it in. She takes a couple of shots and 5 inches high and to the left 4 inches. Took me a few minutes to figure it out. Dialed it in for her using her POI and she was hitting the X no problem. I took a shot and guess what, 5 inches low and to the right 4 inches. Had a good laugh over that one.
So I guess you could say her rifle shoots better than I can. :)

That's why I always take someone out when I zero their rifle for them, whether it's a scope install, or load development, they need to shoot it for final zeroing. Same thing with the M70 7x57 featherweight I traded him for, kept saying it shot like ####, I took it out, shot some loads, it shoots great. Same loads he was was all right with by several inches and #### groups lol.
At least he shoots this 270 AB3 really well, and he likes it. I like the classics myself so it worked out for both of us.

Some people might just think their rifle should shoot better then it does but just can't make it happen, or they just can't shoot.

After today I'm starting to think that is the case lol. But I also think it takes time with any rifle to get use to it, and get yourself dialed into it. I target shoot primarily, so I'm use to bench shooting form, my brother hunts but doesn't do a lot of bench shooting. I keep trying to get him out more, as it builds confidence and consistency, but he is a busy guy with his work.
It's probably why there are so many new guns for sale with 20 rounds down the pipe, people's expectations are much higher then their dedication to practice shooting.

I use 4" round coasters for targets.
If I can hit it off hand at 100 yards then I don't care how it shoots on a sled or in someone else's hands

I enjoy having my rifles achieving their objective, to shoot tiny bug holes, accompanied with added horse powder. Yes, I believe, through experience, that my rifles are more accurate than what I can shoot them. There are days when I cannot shoot those bug holes, however my rifles are most capable, just depends how I'm focused/keen on that day at the range.

I was once shooting a rifle at 100 yards with barrel mounted irons.

One of those strange range lingerers was literally standing in my stall eyeing it up. I asked him what was up because I was a bit weirded out, probably a sign of the genius I was about to witness. He told me he had a rifle of the same make in a large caliber and we got to talking, or I got to listening to some stranger talk about how great the irons were on these rifles.

I disagreed, said I wasn’t a fan of them and planned on scoping it or getting a peep. He guffawed, told me it shoots great, better than he does. Great 2 shot groups but always throwing the third, around two inches though but hunting accurate.

Distance he shot the super rifle with great sights at and achieved this match grade accuracy?

25 metres

It takes all kinds

I find it hard to believe that my 303 Jungle Carbine (~5 inch groups @ 100 yds off bench rest) shoots better than I do when I can pick up my Tikka and shoot 1 inch groups with it at the same range on the same day. In this case it's the accuracy limits of the rifles not the shooter.

I'm not buying that self deprecation BS, I think most experienced shooters can shoot to the limits of their hunting rifles and possibly their target rifles.
Nobody wants to be associated with inferior equipment so that's where this phrase comes from.

I have some really good days at the range, days when my groups are amazing. But I’d say those days only happen 15%-20% of the time. It gives me a good idea of what my rifles can do, but most days I can’t pull it off. So, at least most if the time my rifles shoot better than I do..... although I admit I need to get out shooting more often
