hey im thinkin of either goin for a SST or a ELDX in 162gr, maybe 150gr? for "larger deer" game, not bigger than elk, but bigger than a average muley say... typically from 200m with a max at 450meters say 500.......

which of these would be the go? are they goin to be much better option over a woodleigh ppsn? its not extreme long range but it is what it is, the only thing a woodleigh gives me is confidence at 40meters on a large animal, with say 160gr ppsn?

Accubonds an Swifts an TTSX are too expensive for me to use down here, i may be able to find cheaper interlocks in store , or speer or sierra maybe, but otherwise its Hornady sst or eldx.

thanks

The ELD-X is sensitive to impact velocity (as are many cup and core bullets), too much and the bullet will not perform as advertised.

As an example I have two 7mm rifles, one 7mm-08 that uses a 150 ELD-X that has a MV of 2600 ft/s, so this means the bullet will perform from muzzle to ~500m, the second is a 280ai that uses a 175 ELD-X at 2725 ft/s, performance window is from ~100m to near 700m. It is a longer range set up.

Many people chase the ultimate in velocity but as the impact velocity goes up so does the need for bullet designed for those impact velocities.

Any time I use cup and core bullets on larger game, I'll hold out for decent lung shots and have had excellent results in doing so....:)

i get ya mate. an thats makes perfect sense to do.

sorta like me now? 7-08 but its bonded 140gr for 0-300 an
the 7rem mag 162 cup an core for "150 -500" say. a bit of over lap but not too bad at all.
as hawki mentiones to place them shots in closer , to avoid the boness
