Looking a getting a .22, first I was considering a mosquito but after hearing alot of bad things about the gun I decided to choose another... got it narrowed down to two guns, the Browning Buckmark or the CZ Kadet.... (ruger is in there too but I'm leaning towards the other two)

I have a 1911 so this isn't my first gun, I just want a .22 (cheap to shoot and they're fun)

I would love comment from people who own or have fired both.

A good user review on the CZ Kadet

Accuracy - For the best accuracy, take your time fitting the unit to the frame. There's a small block of metal which needs to be fitted into the frame. Most of the units are just a hair oversized and require stoning to make them fit.
I spent about 20 min or so on mine. Not slow, not fast - kinda half-fast..(pun kind of intended);)
If I would have slowed down a little more, the result would have been a very accurate .22.
I believe it could have rivaled my Smith model 22/s if I had taken a liiiiiitel bit more time. As it is, it's just a hair more accurate than my Ruger Mark II "slabside". I believe the only limiting factor is the quality of the CZ trigger itself. Mine isn't bad, but it's not a Target quality by any stretch. Even though the Ciener on my Kimber isn't as potentially accurate as the Kadet, I shoot it (Ciener/Kimber) better because of the better trigger the Kimber has.

While I am not fond of the idea of a conversion kit for a .22 it seems the Kadet can be an accurate one. While the gun can be accurate the trigger will not likely be as good as a decent target .22 gun. I have a CZ75 with a very good trigger but the gun was worked over by a good gunsmith. The off the shelf CZs I have tried have been disappointing. Yes they can be worn in but they still will not be as good as a target .22 gun.

I would rather have a dedicated gun for a .22 though. My opinion is that you can't have too many guns.

See if you can try a bunch of guns before you buy. Yes you can always sell a gun and replace it with something better later but it is a pain as far as I am concerned.

The Rugers get recommended a lot. They are a decent rugged accurate lower cost handgun. The triggers are a little spongy but a lot of people (especially new shooters) will not notice it at first (if ever). Great gun, I have three. Mainly used as loaners rather than shooters.

My favorite .22 is my High Standard model Citation. On a Ransom rest my S&W model 41 has shot slightly smaller groups. I have shot my 41 in a couple of free pistol matches and had not done all that bad against guys with real free pistol guns (in the end it comes down to the shooter). While my S&W 41 is slightly more accurate I can typically shoot my High Standard better under many conditions. The balance and fit in my hand feels much better with the Citation. I have tried more expensive Walther target pistols and not liked them because of the feel in my hand.

In my opinion the Buckmark is a decent plinker but falls a little short to be considered a target gun. Durability is also a concern. I saw one that had been peened from shooting high velocity (regular cheap) ammo. It took a while to figure out what was wrong because the peened steel did not look wrong. But after a couple of strokes with a file and the gun was back to working.

Both are very different
The Cadet will feel a lot more like a full size pistol. It is a cheap way (ammo wise) to pratice. The Buckmark and ruger feel a lot more like a target pistol than a normal tactical pistol

What do you want to do with it?

If you want something cheapter to simulate your 1911 and can't afford the Cadet, go with the 22-45 from Ruger

I have been selling handguns that I haven't fired in a while. These included a nickel S&W M34, Ruger 22/45, and a Ruger MKII Government. I did not sell my Ruger MKI Standard Model, S&W M43, or CZ75 Kadet. This tells you I hold the Kadet in very high esteem. In fairness, I have never fired a Browning Buckmark. Regards, Richard:D

I am also thinking about the Tanfoilio Force 22..... it's a copy of the CZ but in single action..... has anybody fired one on here?

My $.02. Buy a cZ 75 and a Kadet conversion kit. That way you have two pistols for the price of 1 1/2. That is what I did and am now thinking to sell my Ruger 22/45.

And the next thing you know, you'll be thinking about getting another frame to permanently install your conversion kit...

Been there, done that

sillymike, there is merit to your statement. I already owned a CZ75 and when CZs were cheap, I bought the CZ75B to mount the Kadet on rather than switch uppers. What is cheap? I paid $249 for the CZ75B and it was new. Regards, Richard:D

I have a Bull Barrel Buckmark that I have had for years, it has been nothing but 100% reliable for me. There are not that many .22's that are nto good, all of the ones name so far you woudl not go wrong with. The only one I personally did nto liek due to realibility issues was the Walther P22, but I know other who like them.
