Good day, gentlemen. I'm looking to load a few hundred 7.62 X 25 for my recently aquired Zastava M57.
My preferred powder is Hodgdon Longshot - plus, I have a few pounds of it. I have 85 grains bullets, as well as 110 grain. Both weights are jacketted, soft point, round-nose (Hornady - if it makes any difference) and the brass is new Starline. Anyone have any recommendations for min. and max. loads ? Thanks for your time .
 
13gr of Win 296 and a 86-90gr bullet shot nice in a new Polish Tok as in quarter sized group off sandbags at 15 yards

15 grains of H110 with an 85grn bullet is pretty impressive. Needs a hot primer for consistent velocities though. I use a Rem 7.5, some guns may not set those off reliably.

Not many pistol cartridges can push a bullet of decent weight out at nearly 1800fps. I dream of owning a .30 Armco barrel to convert a 10mm but this little guy will do for now.

Longshot should work better than most. At least adequately for plinking. Some guys got as high as 8.5grns without issues and apparently felt they could go higher but that is anecdotal data... The x25 isn't scared of fast powders and Longshot isn't too fast burning. Czech surplus has 11.5 grains of a very fast square flake powder.
 
Thank you very much, gentlemen. You've given me much more than I could find on the "inter-webs". I do have a few other powders - W231, W296, H110, HS-6. I've seen a couple of loads for the 296/110 - I'm not terribly interested in the pyro-technics though. I've found that the Longshot gives better muzzle velocities and lower "cups" than 231 and seems to burn as cleanly. The HS-6 burns a bit dirtier (in my experience).
That's good to know, about the similarity in burn rate, between the 2400 and the Longshot - maybe, if I do a little more research, I can extrapolate one to the other. I generally load my ammo, closer to the max. load (about three quarters of the difference between min. and max.) - for no intelligent reason - just what I've always done. - Thanks again.
 
Hornady has modern data for 2400,H110+Win 296 ? Not sure what you mean by pyrotechnics but Win 296 gives target grade accuracy? MAX for that with a 86-90gr is 14.4gr @ 1700fps and I'm running 13gr for accuracy.Muzzle flash and snap follow Newton's Law.Lots of guppy loads in the 1200fps range but it's like pulling two spark plug wires off your Ferrari IMO.
 
Thanks for that, mbogo. While searching for load data, I came across a few suggestions, that 296/110 would give you impressive muzzle flashes - that's what I meant by pyrotechnics. As you can tell from the little pic on the left of this post - I'm not adverse to muzzle flash - I just don't load for it - if it's the by-product of a good load, then I'm fine with it. If you think 13 gr of 296 is a good load - I'll give 'er a try. Thanks.
 
The fireball from my H110 loads is pretty intense even in broad daylight. It's to be expected with a huge charge of slow powder in a short barrel.
 
I load for accuracy so when I hit 13gr /win 296 and quarter sized groups with fixed military sights I quit right there .it's still a grain or so under MAX.Starline brass and win small primers BTW.Hope it works for you as well.
 
Thanks again, mbogo. I will definitely try some with your recommended load. Have you loaded for 110 gr. bullets (7.62 X 25) with this powder ? Would 12 gr. of 296 under these, be too hot ?
 
I haven't loaded 110gr bullets ,but I believe Ganderite has ? Armscor from what I remember had the most user friendly profile.........Budget shooter Supply?
