Surplus ammo ID

Cleaning out my basement I found a whole cardboard case (4 paper wrapped rolls) of what looks to be 7.62. Headstamp is C, J and 96 at 11, 1 and six on the clock. Whats really interesting is that I dont recall ever having something that shoots that cal. I found one reference that it might be norinco, any ideas?

Im guessing x51. No markings anywhere however the one round I checked is .453 wide x 2.78 long and .31 just after the crimp.

Okay, got some replies from reloaders. Looks to be Norinco 7.62x51. My kids have a vaque recollection of us buying a wooden crate of ammo a decade ago. I find that interesting since I have never owned a 308 of any flavour. Maybe a deal I couldt refuse type of thing.

Yes, it's Chinese 7.62/308, made for export.
