SKS at S.I.R. - any comments?

Thinking about the SKS, and SIR has them for $166 before tax. Any comments, recommendations? What specific model are they? Pinned/threaded?

I looked at them on Saturday, they are pinned. I've been assured though, that they are of a new batch and there are no issues with them working loose.

Here's an opinion - Go to wholesale. Lots of stuff is cheaper at wholesale, including firearms.

i like to say, i bot 2 sks recently and never had any problem.

what i look for is a sks with heavy grease on the internal parts, that usually means it wasnt used before. a pain to clean but at least i know it wasnt a return.

secondly, i prefer the barrel that is threaded , you can tell by the way the shape of the barrel when it meet the receiver so look carefully around the barrel/receiver area, there should be no pin visible.

I've bought 2 there in the last 2 months, great service and very quick. You can't ask for anything better. First cleaning Cleaning is critical though, if the cosmoline is not removed from the bolt, you could have slam fires.

A pinned barrel is just as good as a threaded one...there is only a problem when some jackalope takes a threaded barrel, and shoves it into a pinned receiver or the other way...etc.

Other then that after 10 million rounds a pinned barrel would be harder to replace.

Three just delivered here, they're all pinned barrels, but wildly different stocks. They weren't too badly smeared with cosmoline - a little quality time with some varsol and hot water had them sorted out in no time.. For $165 you can't ##### much!

I was just in winnipeg this week, and although they list them in the catalog, I didn't see any on the racks.

All they had for ammunition to feed them is the Igman tailor-mades.

thats weird , in cabelas catalogue they have SKS accessories.
