PAL Wait Time

I phoned today regarding the status of my application. Last week I was told 2-4 weeks. However, today I was told to expect a 3-4 MONTH wait for processing to be completed. I politely asked if there was any way for me to assist in speeding up the process. I was told that the only thing I can do is to wait. The inefficiency of the CFP is absolutely beyond comprehension at this point. This is just another demonstration of big government making life difficult for law-abiding Canadians. The sad news is that we can expect nothing but more government, as our drama teacher for a PM seizes more power everyday.

in all honesty, if everything checks out ok expect card in hand in 2021.

I called the cfo. Still hasn't received my application yet. Means its still bring processed by the rcmp. I'll give them a call in 2 weeks as I called them a lot this month. I'll let them breathe a bit lol.

Hi, I mailed out my RPAL & PAL on June 23rd 2020. I called the RCMP every two weeks roughly and ask about my application and they say that I am not in the system. Was just wondering how long it would take to get my lisence roughly.

Awesome, after I am in the system how long would it take to get my PAL number?

I've been waiting like 2 weeks now. When I called the rcmp they told me its currently taking a month to hit the cfo. Someone else was told the samething then told 3-4 months when he checked a few weeks after. So its hit and miss. Depends on who is working your application. Getting your pal requires a lot of patience. If you have no issues whatsoever and everything goes quick, you are looking at 6 months at the moment to get your pal. Seems most people are 6-8 months.

I recommend people write to there local MP and describe the ridiculous wait times that are taking place at the CFP. I know that the Trudeau government likes to use COVID-19 as an excuse for everything, but the egregious wait times experienced by law-abiding Canadians precedes the pandemic. I wrote my MP; I was pleasantly surprised with the effort put forward, as she is actively pursuing this matter on my behalf. The amount of bureaucracy involved in running SIMPLE background and reference checks is outdated, inefficient, and unacceptable.

I already had a PAL however I was upgrading to the RPAL...

Package received in Miramichi: May 12, 2020
Status online changed and CC charged: September 03, 2020
Application approved and card issued: September 25, 2020

Called yesterday just as it was approved and was advised that my new card will be sent out on Monday the 28.

I did my PAL/RPAL in January, submitted in February, said "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000) " since August. Called a couple times, same thing everytime. "We'll look into it and someone will contact you shortly". Getting frustrating. Wanted to get back into range shooting, but can't buy ammunition. Can't buy new guns.

I used to have a FAC but lost it, haven't used my guns since at least 2000. Have been sitting in the safe since then, been too busy with other things. Wanted to get back into it, was told I needed both. Now 4 of my 5 guns are prohibited, the only one that isn't prohibited is restricted. Really sad what our government has done.

Don’t quote me but I believe there was an article A few weeks ago saying you can use your firearms without the physical card because they’re so backed up.
Ask for your pal number and you can purchase things online and get it shipped!

I bought like 4 firearms before ever getting my physical card.

You can't. Do not use your firearms unless you have card in hand. You can buy and keep firearms at your house but if you go out with them you need proof of license with you. And in the case I'm wrong, do you really want to risk the headache that comes with an arrest?

I called in, got my PAL number and expiry after approval. Odered a bunch of stuff online which was delivered prior to my PAL arriving. However, I never took the risk of having it in my vehicle without a license on me. I waited till license arrived before even thinking of going anywhere with my stuff.

Interesting. Still a risk I wouldn't take. Problem with firearms is its not like a driving ticket and you just pay a fine worst case. Every firearms violation is criminal and the baggage that comes with that is something nobody needs in their life. How many times do innocent people get charged for something incorrectly. Many times. Runkle posted a video about a guy who kept a snap cap in his rifle. Got pulled over and the police checked the firearm and subsequently charged the man with transporting a loaded firearm and negligent possession of a firearm or something like that. Now the man was found innocent in court but this dragged on for years. Imagine his mental state all this time. He was arrested, booked, spent some time in jail until bail hearing. But it only takes some bad luck and an ill-informed police officer to ruin your life.

whether this goes anywhere, i am completely surprised by the events thus far.

to recap. Been waiting for 18months for first time RPAL. Many phone calls to BC CFO. Applied for freedom of info. CFO wont tell you anything except to call back in 4 weeks.
Freedom of info says 30 days to get reply but now at almost 60.

today as a what can it hurt moment. I sent off a message to my NDP MP. I must say i am impressed and kind of shocked at how fast things moved.
Email sent to MP at 1040 today

reply from said MP (Jenny Kwan) at 1058. Email said she had forwarded email to local staff.

At 1300 i get email from local staff. Attached was a consent form. Filled it out and emailed back.

amazing considering it is a NDP MP. I had sent same email for nearby Conservative MP a few months ago and did not even get a reply.
Sent one last week to another closer Conservative MP and at least there i got an auto reply. Figured they may be able to help since i am a card carrying member of party.

Now to wait and see what happens next.
