I need to cut off the delta ring on my upper and also chop the front sight and bayo lug down so they can be covered by the MI rail.

Normally I'd tackle something like this myself, but I only have 2 big grinders and Im afraid I'll make a mess of my upper if I slip up somewhere. I just received the rail today and had a closer look at the upper and delta ring... there's no way Im taking a big grinder to this thing. So instead of going out and buying a dremel kit I thought I'd offer up a case of beer or something to whoever can help get this job done... preferably someone who had done it before.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Where abouts are you? I am in Mississauga and would be happy to lend you my dremel or my time. I cut the delta ring off for the install of my MI #20 rail and that was very straight forward and easy, but to anyone who does this cover up your gun because you do get metal flakes all over the place. I was happy I remembered to remove my BCG or else it would of been a PITA to clean it all.

Dave and Casey are two great guys, but in all honesty the job you need is nothing that needs to be done by a gunsmith. Patience and a steady hand is all you need.

Just curious why to you have to cut the delta ring off. If you have an access to upper receive block barrel can be removed, along with delta ring. FSB can also be removed.

I would do it properly as opposed to cutting the delta ring off and cutting the FSB while is on the gun.

Well to be honest it just seems to be the quickest most painless way. And from talking to a couple of guys from this board who have done the job, they said it was very straight forward without removing the barrel or front sight...

If you're only going to install one... Dremel out the delta ring and weld spring. It's easy, and the destroyed parts still cost less to replace (should you want to) than the action block/wrench is to buy.

...or get any of the named peoples to install it for you, that works too.

Sounds like a hack job to me! I will take off the barrel for you and set it back up like you want.

Grinding the delta ring off is just plain stupid! Easy - not if you want to destroy your investment in the rifle. Whoever told you to rind it off was never a technician in my opinion - just a HACK!

Drop me a line, I live in Scarborough and would be more than willing to help you out. I was a weapons tech in the reg's for 14 years and also a hobby gunsmith as well - and I'm a picky person for work and looks.

Cheers, Carl

Actually the job came out damn clean and it was pretty straight forward. The delta ring came off in about 15 seconds... its quite soft and easy to cut with a dremel and small cut-off wheel.

Here's the thread that gave me the original idea:

After doing it myself I really see no reason to remove the barrel or front sight. It was quite straight forward.

Thanks for the offer though.
