Hey Fellas
What Factory Ammo does the Tikka T3x Hunter in .3006 With a 22.4 inch barrel like ? I’m asking for someone I know who just purchased the rifle . He will use it for deer and moose and will most likely stick with one bullet weight and not jump around with different bullet weights . What Factory Ammo choices would you take to the range first time out ?
Thanks

Tell him to try some Federal Fusion 165 and 180gr, see what the rifle groups the best

The Fusion is typically easy to find, and affordable. The bonded core bullet construction allows is a good mix of expansion and penetration. Here's a recovered 180gr Fusion from a moose, looks great

That expansion looks awesome. Do you happen to know the range or approx velocity when it impacted?

If you had 2 Exact same model rifles each rifle will shoot the same ammo differently meaning there is no definite answer it’s what your particular rifle likes. But you Gotta find out what ammo your rifle likes or what’s an acceptable compromise in groupings for your style of hunting like do you really need 1”!groupings if the bush your hunting is thick and under 100 yards shots? Not likely... anyways I use nosler partitions for moose it is a premium bullet but has always performed for me. Not the tightest groups out of my tikka but I don’t take long shots either every moose has been under 100 yards

Thanks for the replies so far fellas ! I’m just trying to save the fella buying a whack of bullets as it can get pricy as you know .

Most modern rifles will shoot most modern ammunition to an "acceptable" standard. At worst, hes going to have a few boxes of stuff that while maybe isnt as great as whatever it likes best, will likely still work in a pinch. Were in the day and age where cheap rifles routinely shoot 1" groups at 100m straight from the factory with cheap ammuniton. Or he can just shoot it for practice. Or sell it. In short, theres no such thing as having too much ammo.

Buy stuff and see what works best.

There is no other real answer. Ever gun shoots ever bullet differently. No one can give a definitive answer

^^ This ^^ ....... There is no easy way around it unless you happen to hit on the right ammo the 1st time out. I'd start with the cheap stuff for deer.

Thanks Again Fellas ! I really appreciate that fellas with knowledge are willing to share !
A lot of knowledgeable people do not want to share said knowledge . Was never like that but hey what do I know !

Absolutely!

OP - if it helps ....

Very recently a couple new guys in my group bought T3x rifles - a 300WM and 3006 - both have Leupold VX 3i 3.5-10x40 installed. They also picked up some Sako Super Hammerhead 180 (code 236A) and 150gr (code 235A) respectively since those were on sale in addition to a mgfr rebate.

The 300WM shot under an inch and the 30-06 put three shots in the same hole - targets were shot at 100m.

Thank You for the information !

Fella I’m going to post yet another thread on this rifle as I don’t want to muddle up the other 2 threads on different topics ! It seems on Forums threads can easily go sideways from the main topic . Please reply to the next thread if you so choose
ThankYou !
