Hey all,
Thinking of selling this one. What do you think it's worth? Good condition, shiny bore, older model - 1950's?

Thanks,
Adam

Early production (note the square safety knob), but 60s rather then 50s. The 700 came out in the early 60s, and the 7mm Mag in '63 or so. I believe the very earliest ones had blackened stainless steel barrels, if memory serves. Having said that, unless someone has the hots for old 700s, it's a $500 gun. - dan

What he said.

I think Remington has a page where you can check the manufacture date by serial number.

This is an interesting piece because it dates to the early period of bnoth the m700 and the 7mm mag itself. Known as remington's 'big 7', the 700/7mm mag was wildly popular for the first few years of production, and remington couldn't match the demand for this combination. Sort of like the early S&W 29s.

Still, history aside, this gun doesn't really have any particular collector value, and given the condition of the finish I'd say its value is in the 400-500 dollar range.

I can see the "stainless steel" stamping on the barrel and the serial number looks like 1963..the last one I bought like this one was serial #82### and the barrel date code was May '63, paid $350 for that one...it's now a 257 Weatherby awaiting bluing, the barrel is in the scrap barrel pile and the stock is in the corner waiting for the weather to cool off and I'll want to light the fireplace..:)

Is that some pitting on the receiver and bolt?

It's a $400 rifle....tops...providing it isn't pitted.
