How does it attach to the barrel? Pins or friction fit?

I have the "picatinny gas block" that tightens with screws but I'd like a (RRA) FSB and want to know if it's an easy swap.

A standard front sight base is attached with taper pins. Probably best left to a pro but it is possible to do it yourself with a drill press and a no. 2 taper reamer. Toughest part of the job would be to ensure that it remains straight during installation. I still haven't worked up the stones to try it myself.

It's straight pins and a damn tight fit... there is no gas system (on the 9mm)...
I took mine off to install an end cover on the foreend.... little penetrating oil, a plastic hammer and duct tap covering the sight no problem.... couple (like 20) light taps
and she came off...

How hard was it to remove the front sight block(two screws)?
I'm thinking that I'd like to go with a LaRue 9" or 10" rail handguard?
Wondering if there is any barrel work to do etc?

mildot, unscrew the flash hider, loosen the two allen screws, pull it off. Took me about 30 seconds start to finish.

I put on a FSB with an allen screw in the bottom to hold it in place.

Just buy the Armalite set screw FSB.

$25.00 later and this is what it looks like

No barrel mods needed for a FF rail. Just leave the FSB/gas block off if you want to cover the area.

Here's mine with the FSB on.

Mine is just an upper put on my 223 lower so I can't be sure but I'd think the 9mm 'pistol' would have a 9mm bffer in it or it wouldn't function properly.
