Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I don't know how to put photos up so I made it my profile picture. For clarification it is a small piece broken off the end of the chamber. Approximately 1/8" missing. The bolt face doesn't mate on the face completely. I have only dumped some 700 rounds through it. Gas setting 2

Is that an lmg? That my friend is a failed heat treat. You can see the grain is quite coarse. If it's an lmg, that needs a warranty repair as we don't know how far into the chamber the heat treat failed. As far as functionality is concerned, the gun will still work as the brass will expand and seal still but now the brass can get caught there. So you might see failure to extract.

Oh wow....

No Bueno.
That's some bad steel in a place that takes ALL the pressure of the cartridge being fired :sok2
I'd stop shooting that thing and see about warranty replacement brother.

Are you talking about this ?

upon closer inspection the Circled part does have the relief cut but the right side is clearly sheared off. But expert opinion is it safe to shoot?

Ull have to upload a more well lit and higher rez photo to get a more solid verdict. I use IMGUR.com to link photos to CGN... dont feel ashamed. Posting personal pics to CGN IS generally a pain in the ass.
