De capping question

Thanks all for the advise . I went slow and steady , for what it was worth for protection i just used a towel folded 3 or 4 times between my face and the press . None went off by the way :)

For crimped military 308 cases, I found that the Dillon universal decapping die with the 308 stem worked best. Tried a Redding S neck sizing die (without bushing) for 308 and it caused a few primers to go off. Loud.

I just use a regular Lee neck sizing die to pop the live primers out. I've never had one go off using this method. The only time a live primer has gone off on me was when I didn't have a Lee neck size die available and used a hammer and decapping pin to drive the primer out. Even with these tools, the vast majority came out without a hitch. Just wear safety goggles when decap live primers, just in case.
