.375 Winchester ammo and recipes

I forgot to mention Woodleigh bullets has several hunting videos using thier products and can be viewed on YouTube. Including the previous hunt I mentioned before.

Woodleigh recently revamped thier website. And it's not quite as user friendly as it once was in my own opinion.

Hey guys, sorry been crazy at work! I am definitely following this thread. I really enjoy and appreciate all from you. Please keep it coming. Thank you!

Woodleigh bullets said they loaded thier Hydrostatic Stabilized bullet in the .375 Winchester in the M94 Big Bore and at about 40 yards distance killed a water buffalo type beast in Australia. The terminal bullet path measured in feet.
It used to be on thier website however they recently changed thier website and I cannot find this short video presentation now.

The relevant bit is at the 5:30 mark

HI; The .376 bullets or .377 may be better. 375 brass has thicker wall thickness then 38-55 brass. The rifling in 375 Winchester is most likely .376
38-55 on old gun can be from .382 to .379. or on Newer rifles sometimes have .377 bore and will not chamber fat bullets.
.375 Winchester is a modern round and usually consistent chamber and rifling spec.
38-55 is very old and has chambers and bores all over the ice. FUN if you like a challenge.

Yes I believe your right, comparing other cast stuff the .377 is common. Thank you!
So much info to know.
When shooting cast, is “harder “ better? I see BH-22 and BH-25. Much difference in penetration? Thanks guys.

I have used IMR 4198 with the 220gr Hdy's in my Marlin over the years with good success (1' groups at 100 yards w/ a Leupold 2.5x scope with heavy duplex reticle).
I have also used the Winchester 200 gr FP ammo too.

HSM ammo now makes 375 Win ammo loaded with the 200gr Sierra bullets, and is priced better than the Winchester ammo (which they finally produced another run of) $57 vs $80/box. I had P&D in Edmonton order it in for me. I recently saw both brands on the shelf at Corlanes in Dawson Creek.

I have some of thee Sierra's on hand now, but have not tried a load with them yet.
If my 94 Big Bore likes the HSM ammo, I will try developing a load for with with the Sierra's and keep my Hdy's for my Marlin.

I have taken a fair number of moose and black bear with the 375 Win over the years (since 1996) and it has always performed well on big game for me out to 130 yards. I have also harvested one caribou with it. It will be my first choice when I finally get to go on a cougar hunt! Love the 375 Win!

As noted above; be careful with 38-55 ammo/brass. You can safely fire the 38-55 ammo in your 375 but you do not want to fire the 375 in a 38-55 rifle. The 375 is loaded to higher pressures as the brass is thicker and can withstand the higher pressure. If you were to use 38-55 brass for your 375, DO NOT LOAD to MAX!

There was an ad on EE recently for 375 Win brass.

I had Ron Smith re-bore a non-collectible 1950's Marlin 30-30 to 38-55 with a 1-16 twist .376 bore so can use both .375 + .377 bullets.Went with Jet bullets 265GC cast .377 sized.Shoots about 1 1/2" at 100 yards 1600fps with 4 X Leupold up top. Powder IMR 3031 Starline long brass.
