700P, LTR or 5R Mil Spec

Get the one model that keeps you up all night thinking about it. Yeah, maybe the 5R costs more, but which one fits YOUR game better ? Can't forget about your budget too. My VSF shoots way better than I can ever hold it.

One thing I've learned about competing in Sniper matches at the National level is that when the wind is quartering towards you and then fishtailing without a predictable pattern, all of those Remingtons won't shoot well unless you are a confident wind reader from lots of experience (interpret that: not sitting at the 100 meter bench printing small holes ) at hopefully more than one KD (known distance) range. Come on out and practice with yer new boomstick !!

If I recall.. thats not quite right. The 5R uses the same rifling as the M24, but the contour is not the same... with the M24 being heavier. I also think it is 2 inches shorter than the M24/700P.

While the 700P has a 26" Barrel, the 5R and M24 are both 24".

What I'd like to know is what is a good (reasonably priced) way to subdue the stainless colour of the barrel. (Not including spray painting it).

Hungry,
Good post. I have to admit the 5r is the one that keeps me up at night :D
It's unique and no doubt will have some collectability. If nothing else it's a good conversation starter. Plus the reports on accuracy have been excellent.

Will the gun shoot better than me? No doubt :D. But at least I'll know it's m and not the rifle :). Besides that still leaves me the ammo, scope etc to blame:D I'm just trying to limit my excuses.
