I've read the few articles and even other forums with regards to this firearm.

Does anyone here have any experience with this rifle? The current theory appears to be that the barrel are M24 rejects? However a lot of them have been very very accurate. I'm interested in any experience and opinions on this rifle. Thanks.

And who's theory would that be, your's? If you've read that many articles and have visitited knowledgable forums, you'd know that your statement would be false. Do some even rudimentary research on this and educate yourself a little.

The rifle profiling, barrel length, and material (stainless steel) are similar but the contour is not. The M24 has a much heavier barrel (Douglas #7 contour) VS a Remington varmint (#5.5 contour).

Here's a link you might definitely be interested in, if you're seriously considering this. FWIW, I'd have been on this like white on rice if I hadn't just spent $1,800 on a .308 Win. Rock barreled project.

The Shooting Edge has one for sale on the web-site. The rifle is very nice, I handled one at a local gun shop. I have a friend int he US who bought one and he loves it. It is worth the money.

Parker-Hale Mike.
Thanks. I actually found that other thread right after starting this one. Doh :(

There really isn't much info on this firearm and considering I was seriously thinking of buying one, I've done as much homework as I could/time would allow. The owner of Sniper Central has stated that the barrels for this rifle are the ones that didn't make it for the M24. Seems to be second hand info and I'm not entirely sure about it. But... considering most of the stuff on that site appears to be pretty good I'm not prepared to completely dismiss that theory.

I contacted the Shooting edge earlier today. They were out of stock.
Considering how much I've spent on firearms lately it's probably a good thing. Maybe next time.

Mel over at Sniper Central knows what he is talking about, he is a former army sniper and a rifle builder.

Steve David,
I've been reading his reviews for a few years now. I recalled he was a sniper and his reviews appear to be refreshingly honest. If something isn't good he says so. I definately agree with you that his reviews/info appears to be good. Now he does say he recieved the info about the barrels from a buddy of his that works for Remington. So there is a chance that it's not right since it's second hand info. Either way they have a reputation for shooting well.

Have you tried Wolverine??? I got mine from them. It is stil sitting in a box next to my desk. Give them a call. I'm the one who told Ryan that they were out on the market. He then bought the whole remaining stock from the distributor. Maybe they have one left.

Wolverine didn't have any. I got the "we can order one in for you" line.

Williams Arms in Port Perry had one more. I bought it this morning.

No problem. I just did the same thing

Shooting will be a while. I've collected all these rifles. I need a financial break and then I have a bunch of glass to buy.

I was just reading an article in Precision Shooting where they compared the 5R rifles, plus the regular USMC sniper rifle to the new DARPA funded service sniper rifle, built by Iron Brigade. 6 groove 18.5" suppressed barrels, outshooting the other rigs at 1000 yards at Quantico and in the US Army tests. Very interesting reading. - dan

Great deal of controversy on that DARPA rifle and the claims made by the Chandlers. Look on some of the more well known sniper forums and you'll see what I mean. Quite interesting dialogue, for sure.

Well I have one and if this is a M24 reject then it is a damm good one and I'll take another. My son who is a qualified USA SDM-R/LRM-R has shot it on his last leave cannot find any difference in accuracy from the M24. So with a semi official approval rating I am more than happy. I am able to get around .5 MOA +- on a regular basis, that is when I get my act together with me being the weakest link. I am currently shooting Fed GM 168s through it. It took me awhile to get used to the new style of thicker palm swell as apposed to the older slimmer style.

MC One shot.
I like it as well.

In fact mine just arrived today :D.
I love it. I've done the usual cleaning, oiled it etc.
The trigger I'll have lightened up a bit, but otherwise it's excellent and frankly even in the lightness department for a factory non target trigger. I was pleasantly surprised.

The bolt etc, I can put my .308 snap cap in slowly point the muzzle down and watch the bullet slide into the breach while the bolt slides down. Very smooth and slick. Ejection. I like the system they use. You don't need any actual speed with the bolt to eject it. Very nice.

The stock. I've never liked synthetic stocks. I like this one. It looks good, and has a decent design for general use while still being good for the bench. I like the palm swell. I actually prefer a bit more with a pure target rifle, but this one is pretty good.

I'll be taking this one in to have the trigger lightened. That being said if I had the scope and rings ready, I'd just shoot it the way it is. I'm definately very happy so far. Actual shooitng is a ways off. I have far too many scopes to buy right now.

I can't wait to shoot this rifle :D

One recommendation. After oiling it. Wear safety glasses before dry firing (with or without snap cap). The oil will spray slightly back at you. Not enough to blind you but still not pleasant.

So far this rifle is very nicely done. Can't wait to see how it shoots.
