I was gonna make a post closer to the date this all happened and it never happened but now stuck in the house thinking how nice this new snow is going to make coyote hunting in the coming days so I may as well make a post for you guys.
Oct 26
The girlfriend decided that for her birthday this year she wanted to go coyote hunting.
We got up early and started out at the deadpit near a feedlot. After stalking in we were just getting situated when 2 coyotes busted us and took off without offering a shot. Undeterred we continued to watch and sure enough a young pup walked out of the pit and stopped presenting the girlfriend with a perfect broadside shot. Her 243 barked and dog#1 was down.

After a dud stand the third sit of the day had us watching a large tract of bush that I know from experience is packed with coyotes.
Surprisingly enough nothing came to our calls until 13 min in a huge male surprised us by barreling over the hill to my left not even 50 yards away. A fast offhand shot from my 222 put down coyote #2 for the morning.

Stand 4 had us looking over a pasture of rolling hills and slough bottoms. Before even starting the call the girlfriend spots a coyote 500 yards away ambling away from us.
With my rifle trained on where unexpected the coyote to come I let rip on a handheld jackrabbit distress.
The coyote turns and begins trotting towards us. we are watching his progress when I hear a hoarse "to the right!!!" And sure enough 2 dogs have popped up 80 yards away to our right.
We both swing our guns over and quickly countdown from three and at the shots her coyote loses hair and mine takes a hard hit dieing just inside the treeline.

Being only 5 min on stand I kept calling and called in yet another coyote which I then promptly missed which lead to a farewell volley of shots from my 222 and her 243. All in all a pretty succesfull birthday date if I do say so my self.
