Zeiss V-4

  • Is weight a factor for you?
  • Reticle in MOA only with hashes?
  • Turrets capped or tactical?
  • What range is your "general hunting"?
  • What range is your "longer range shooting"?

Weight less than 26oz
Moa or mil with hash Marks
Tactical elevation zs
Don't worry about general hunting range.
Long range plus 1000 say out to 1800 yds
And illuminated

Mind the reticle thickness on long range Zeiss - has been my experience that they can be a little too thick...at the center crosshairs at 500 yards+ ....imho...!
All the best!

This reticle comes in 2 thicknesses the T-20 is the thinner target reticle and the 20 is the thicker hunting reticle. I think I'd go the thick one as primarily it would be used for hunting.

On both the floating center cross hair is illuminated. :)

Thickness T-20 .06MOA
20 .12MOA

The Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LRZSIRMOA is 24.3oz and has all the features as the Zeiss.

Both are made in Japan, not sure which would have better glass.

Z3 doesn't have the reticle or elevation adj. I'm looking for.

Ok fine, it is Zeiss then )

I personally won't be happy with a second focal plane MOA reticle for target shooting, and won't be happy with 6 power in a bush.

I'm not sure if I prefer 1st or 2nd focal plane for hunting as each has their strengths and weaknesses.
I think the ultimate long range hunting scope is a Swarovski X5i but that will be a purchase for another time and it would most likely go on my CA 300 PRC Traverse.
6 power in the Bush I have no problem with and unless the light is fading I see absolutely no advantage to an extreme low power optic but that's just my experience.
Might just wait a bit and see how much I like the rifle first.

I think the Zeiss V4 is a good scope for that price range and you know the glass will be good. They do fall a bit short for reticle choice, but if a simple SFP MOA reticle suits your needs, then it should be good to go.
An option in the same price range that gets you FFP (if you desire) is the Nightforce SHV F1....not big magnification, but a very nice and durable scope, and cheaper yet are the SFP models where more mag. is an option.

Received the rifle today, still waiting on the Zeiss but threw a VX5HD on it...wow, that stock is super light.

Gun is very nice...ti brake and cap

Super smooth bolt.

Gusting 10-15 at the range today so only fired one group ...don't think it'll have any trouble meeting the 1/2 MOA guarantee...really happy so far! :)
