Sorry if this has been asked. I prefer 20gauge for hunting but I want buckshot on hand in case I spot coyotes as i hunt them too. Is buckshot always very rare for 20 or just lately? I may look into reloading if I'm never going go find a good supply.

The last few threads on this topic came up with very little in the way of leads. See if your favorite shop can bring in a case of Rio. I can't say I'd use typical 20 Gauge buckshot for coyotes I'm not calling in but that's just me.

There are several sizes of "buckshot". I have some Federal Premium 3" 20 gauge in #4 Buck. I read there is also loads with #3 Buck. So far as I have found out, that is the largest size of pellet loaded for 20 gauge. Has to do with the maximum size of pellet that can be placed within a 20 gauge wad - side by side, or in layers of three...

I have a bunch of Federal Premium #2. Rio also make a 9 pellet load with the pellets diameter around .29".

Please confirm - there is a Federal Premium load with #2 shot or #2 Buck shot? A pellet at .29" would be titch smaller than standard #1 Buck - No. 1 Lead Buck is usually .30". I did not know such large pellets could go into 20 gauge - learned something, today!!!

I am certain my 3" Premium shells are Copper plated #2 buck. 18 pellets in those guys. I have not used any Rio but after another CGNer posted a picture of his case of shells I researched and they are supposed to be 9 pellets at .29".

You are correct - Just found Federal Premium V-Shok that is or was listed at Cabela's - 18 pellets - #2 Buck sized shot - my apologies for doubting!!! Learned some more today!!!

I have never found it to be common. I got lucky once and bought nearly two cases from Wolverine in Red Deer a few years ago. Remington 2 3/4" #3. Just over $5/5 which I thought was very reasonable. Also scored just under 150 Federal Truball slugs for $5.79/5.

Other than that I have picked it up a few boxes at a time throughout the years. I have a good stash but not nearly as much as I'd like. I shoot more than I buy since it's hard to find so it has dwindled.

Federal has 20G 2&3/4 #3 buck shot or 3" #2 buck shot. Lawry's in Caledonia ordered a case for me, but it was expensive. I think $1.48/shell for a 250 case and that was ~8 years ago.

Edit to add, same stuff as Tenda link above.
