i realise that this is 'optics' related but figured that id get far more help here.

id like to scope an old Mosin (non-sporter) and am looking for a scope that fits the style of the period. i dont want to spend too much money though, its just for a plinker and will never be a sub-MOA rifle anyways.

any other suggestions are welcome as well :)
perhaps some other type of tube retro-looking scope.

im not looking to assemble a historic recreation here, just looking for some sortof scope to mount on it thats not a modern tactical thing that will look out of place on an old Mosin.

I believe the import biznazz only applies to scopes coming from the states, and even then, it's not very much work, considering the savings if you are buying something new and expensive. For a PU repro, I'd suggest checking fleabay. There's lots to be had there for around $250, from the Ukraine or Russia(so no import pains). Don't forget that you'll need to have the bolt bent, a $60 ticket. At the end of the day, a mosin is not a cheap rifle once a scope is mounted!

yeah im starting to see that even with repro hardware its no cheap undertaking.

$60-100 to bend the bolt
$120-150 for repro PU scope
$100-150 for repro PU mount, which needs to be mounted so...
$50 for drill and tapping the mount

so thats around $400-450.

i think that im going to go with the scout-style mount that replaces the rear sight, and get a simple pistol scope with LER for it. that way theres no gunsmithing, no bolt bending, and i can restore the rifle to the original condition.
anyone have a source for the B-Square mounts thats less than $89.99 at SIR mailorder?
right now im trying to decide if i should order from SIR for $90 or order from the states at $50 for the mount... but risk shipping/customs hassles and charges. goddamn canadian pricing.
