410 in 410

Hey all. Trying out that new 410 powder in my 410. Following the load in the alliant booklet i have lists max at 11.5grs for 1200fps. My mec is consistently dropping 11.6grs yet im only getting between 1075 and 1088fps. My gun is a 3" chamber. Could that explain the drop in velocity? Or should i bump up the load a half grain?
 
What components are you using? What is the CUP of your load? Shot weight?MEC bushings are rarely as advertised weight wise.Does 25fps matter? A 2.5" load usually throws denser patterns IMO.Many variables.

Alliant said to use federal plastic info when using challenger hulls when i called them. They said cheddite hulls are so similar to federal the info could be shared. They didnt have info for my normal cheddite primers thoygh so i bought the cci to try
2.5" challenger hull
Cci primer
Fed 410sc wad
1/2 oz bushing which is more or less on as im using #7.5 shot
Mec 11 bushing which an average of 25 drops weighed was 11.6 grs
 
I'll check my BPI data when I get home from work. Cheditte hulls and primer interchangeability info.

BPI says Cheditte 209 primers may be interchanged with Nobel 209,CCI209 +win 209. They don't list fed wads as they pimp their own brand.
 
in my 410 2.5" #7 factory ammo is consistently over 1250fps

Chamber size, components and powder lot, all can and will influence the velocity.

I increase the charge until I get to 1200fps and call it a day.

I have played with an older book load that gave me 1400fps but the hulls wouldn't hold the primer after one firing.

I remember few years ago trying nobel primers in 12ga sts hulls. Ended up tossing a bunch of hulls cuz my cheddite primers wouldnt seat tight in the pockets after. They were the same speed over the chrono though. Thanks for checking

Persnickety little thing huh?
410 the grouchy little gauge that isn't.
Apparently pressures can rise rather dramatically due to the powder type and smaller bore diameter.
Is why I don't mind buying Challenger shells in only this "gauge." My 410 is hinge action so extraction is never an issue.
However in my Ithaca pump 28 gauge Challenger game loads sticky ejection fifty percent of the time.
